Default VP Transmission Case

Does any one know if the VP tranmission Case for the AX10 is an exact copy of the plastic one?

More specifically, can the case be mirrorred so the spur is at the back and the motor is on the passenger side (US way....)?

Yep, you sure can. This is half of the VP case anyway, but with the other half and a motor plate you can do the same thing.

Dave as good a product as it is. It is not really needed unless you are planning on running big power through the transmission. In a sportsman all it will do is add extra weight high up where you do nor want it.

Yeah, but there is the "Bling" factor!

I suck so bad in the Sporty class, I just try to look good now, and maybe, just maybe, they wont notice how bad I drive!

All joking aside, yep, it just adds weight where you don't need it.

I like the BLING factor of the case too...it matches the body I'm running and will soon match the knuckles, chubs, lockouts, etc, etc, etc. Some people are moving forward with innovation and I'm steadily going backwards (and a smidge forward) to where everyone wanted all of their aluminum parts to stand out and match

The only reason I need one is because of the plastic one on the spm has 1 or 2 mounting holes stripped and am thinking ahead when we dicussed that Axial may gradually stop making all the parts. So need to know I can get one that will last forever....

I also like the bling factor.....

I agree. The plastic housing is strong enough, so if you replace the gears you would be fine. The aluminum is extra weight you really don't need.

Doesn't the housing from the Wraith and new Ridgecrest match? I know it has the ability to run the factory Axial dig, but I thought the housing was the same. If that's the case, then you should have parts for a long time.

The front part is same as ax10, the back one is different. You may need shorter drive shaft, too.

When you get it all apart, weigh them both. I remember seeing a post...maybe by Stormin2u, about the weight difference. It was significant enough to make me not want an aluminum case.

I'm running a Wraith trans in mine, the mount points are the same, and it uses the same gear set inside. The front of the case is slightly different, the bolt location on the output side was moved because of the dig housing on the back of the case.

If you wanted to run the Wraith case, you would need a few extra parts; rear output, and bearings for the rear output. If you used a dig in it, you would still need to get the 2 bearings, but it would have a different output in the kit.

Anyway, bought a new plastic one, I think its good enough for the time being.

I have also found it is quite difficult to get the axle housing, I have bought 2 set from Amain but ebay has came empty (except Ominihobby that want $11 postage)....
