Looking at the prices of stuff, if you decided to go with the stock XR10 plastic, you are almost better off buying a whole XR10 kit and hoping you can part the rest of it out and make some money back. It crossed my mind after I placed my order for my parts!

I used the STRC wraith hubs and knuckles. They work well.

I did the narrow XR-10 mod awhile back, and loved the steering. After driving my Ridgecrest for awhile, I was looking to decrease some scrub radius and I'm now doing a second front axle with the wide Beef Tubes and Vanquish Wraith knuckles and C's. I plan to decrease the backspace on my SLW's with shorter hubs. Question for those who have done this same setup...is your C's loose on the ends of the Beef Tubes? Is this because the Tubes were originally meant for AX-10 C's instead of XR-10? I may have to save these tubes for use with my 8* Vanquish C's and make something else for this mod. I don't like all the slop. |

I just installed my long tubes as well and found the stock plastic xr chubs fight really tight but the aluminum versions are sloppy as we all know. So to remedy this I found a brass tube from the hobby shop that fit the inside of the aluminum xr chub. Inside diameter of the brass was too small but some work with a drum sander on the dremel made short work. Notched out the brass tube for the caster adjustments and its a nice tight fit now. The tube was 17/32" OD and I believe it says .030" on the thickness from k&s. Happy with the results for sure. I should mention that I bought the st racing chubs and not sure if they fit the inside of the other brand chubs. Had a buddy try it and didn't fit the hr chubs as well as the st racing ones.

I decided to machine new tubes out of aluminum, and make the OD a slip fit for the VP C's.

| ![]() The first thing you need is a set of ax10 axles or if you are building from scratch like I did you will need axle housings. Then you need to decide on what gears you want, beef tubes (some do this mod without them), axle shafts, etc. I didn't actually put the axle pictures on my thread for some reason but I'll put them on here or on my build thread when I get back home.

Okay i ordered 2 sets of the longer Beef tubes last week, one for my shafty and one for my C3. I am very used to AX10 axles but new to XR10 parts, and have a few questions. First, I'm wondering if the width of the new upgraded axles is the same as stock XR10's, so that I can use a VP tierod - Axial XR-10 bent titanium tie rod Second question(s) is about the fittment of the c hubs. From what I read the stock plastic hubs are the only ones that fit the steel beeftubes snugly, but who wants to use cheepo plastics after doing a pricey upgrade like this? So do any of the aluminum hubs fit "well" without shimming (the brass 17/32" x .030 tube fix) ? Why dont the vendors machine them a hair wider to solve this? |
