Default Driveshaft upgrade for AX10?

Hello,
I have an AX10 Scorpion. I've had it for a while, but it still has the stock driveshafts. They never gave me any trouble until my last trail run. The front one is getting a little weak. I was thinking of replacing them, and wanted to look into my options. I don't really want to spend $30 on the very nice CVD, aluminum, etc shafts. Does anyone know of anything that would be better than stock but cheaper than the $30 shafts?

Thanks,
Josh

stock drive shafts. but put a wooden rod in the center. it keeps them from sort of collapsing and makes them stronger

All I can tell you is that the best money spent on a shafty is solid driveshafts. Watch the classifieds the MIP's come up often. All of my rigs have MIP's and won't build without them.

Thank you both. My front shaft is getting weak where the gaps connect to the u-joint.

Stock shafts twist and fail. Cheap fix is Traxxas #1953. An even better way to use them is to cut down two females to the right length and splice them together with a piece cut off a male. Keep it centered with a couple spacers or glue one side. (Females are large diameter so stronger in twist)

But what you describe sounds like the ears getting weak and slipping off the yoke pins. They make aluminum rings to force over the ears to keep them from spreading. Some people use bands of heat shrink, cable ties or safety wire around the ears. But don't just fix the old ones. Start with new and beef them up.

Some top guys like Eddie at Crawler Innovations don't like metal driveshafts because of weight and vibration. He markets a kit to fit even larger, but still plastic traxxas driveshafts. A little pricier than my first option. That's what Jeremy was referring to.

id say if you have had good luck with the stockers.. they are cheap.. why not try them again and see how long they last?
i am planning on running the stccks and maybe go traxxas eventually... i havent broke the stock ones yet.. but im not really modified either...

The Maxx shafts are also much smoother and you'll get more angle out of them then even the MIPs. You can also easily cut them to whatever length you desire.

Nevermind the prior post. I am feeling particularly stingy today, and just ended up ordering a stock replacement. Though my truck has many mods, it does still have the stock ESC and motor. I've been running those stock shafts for the eight months I've had the truck and am now just starting to have trouble, so they can't be that bad..... Thanks everyone for your input.

MIPs are bomb proof, just spend the 45buxs now and get it out of the way.

The MIPs won't give as much throw as the Maxx shafts..

I have been running stock shafts for more than two years now, still the originals

At the beginning put retaining rings on the u-joints, 12mm water pipe part (dont know english word for it, looks exactly like the ring that is sold for the purpose..)

Only once has u-joint popped from yoke pins, that was because the ring had slipped from its place.
In my opinion the stocks are pretty good, but of course trigger finger plays a big part here, I have quite smooth one Although in the comps it has got some grunting also in between rocks. Nowadays running Tekin FXR/Tekin handwound 35T. And of course carry few spare shafts along just in case..
