This project makes me think of the line "Caulking and paint make the carpenter I ain't!"

Did some work on the bed today. It was difficult and looks a little rough, but I'm thinking that once I cault the seams then paint the whole thing it'll be ok.

It is coming along very nicely. It is hard to see the clear plastic in the pictures. I had to study them for a bit. Cant wait to see it painted.

Thanks Adam. I'm looking forward to seeing it finished too. Last night I did a little trimming then caulked the seams with the liquid nails. After its good and dry I'll paint it. Highly looking forward to that! I also mounted the TSLs last night and one Of the old Rovers for a spare.

Its going to look awesome. Make a rear bumper mount and collect those extra points. Also, the spare should be legal also, so you can borrow a flat iron. They are smaller and lighter, but still scale legal. :-)

I see you trying to rack up those scale points man. :-)

Thanks man. Yeah scale points! Drop bed will give me a few! It kind of feels like a race month to month, to add points for the next comp

I know a bumper mounted tire carrier would give me points, but my vision for the drop bed included mounting the spare in the bed. I do want to make a rear bumper though, one that is similar to the front (minus the stinger). Also, the TSC toolbox is too wide to fit between the shock towers and against the cab, so if I don't put the tire there it will be weird empty space. So this is what I've been thinking, but thanks for the idea!

That weird empty space is where you put your bedroll, cooler, spare scale stuff and things like that. :-) I was just saying it, because my uncles bronco like that had the tire mounted on a swing arm thing on the back.

Yeah the swing arm tire carrier would be realistic. Who knows where it will be when it's all said and done

If you put the tire in the bed your truck will be more predictable when you drive it. If it is hanging off of the rear that is a lot of weight out back. It will cause more roll overs especially on hill climbs. I recommend in the bed. A couple of extra scale points isn't worth the 3 roll over touches it will create. Scale points are great but I think we have to remember what we are using these trucks for. For me it is mostly about the driving. I try to balance scale points vs performance. That's my 2 cents.

I put some paint on the bed today (flat black). I also painted the top of the bedsides, thinking of a faux bedliner look.

I painted the back of the cab too, and masked off an area for a rear window. I need to get more green paint (the body color) soon. When I do, I plan to paint the upper half of the back of the cab green, as well as the ugly screw heads on the outside of the body, and make the rear window a little neater.

I'm a little bummed, in that I feel this was harder than I thought and turned out a little more ghetto than I had planned. On the flip side, I do think the body overall has a cool look to it now, almost military-esque. I'm looking forward to getting that paint soon, and mounting the tire and tool box. I picked up some scale bungee cords today (curtosey of Tin) that might be used in the bed to hold something down.

Here are some pics!

It looks good. The green rings don't fit the truck, but the breed and tires are awesome. Once you put your stuff in the bed it won't seem sip ghetto to you.

I have a second set of wheels that someone painted black. The black doesn't look nice, but I was thinking about mixing parts so I could put the small inner green rings on the outside.

I read something taking the color off using oven cleaner or something like that.

I've been picking away at this project little by little in the evenings. Recently, I painted the back of the cab green, painted the screw heads green, and put a coat of rubber undercoating on the bed (it has a texture like bedliner). I also added rear body posts under the bed so the body is all mounted up now, installed the toolbox for winch accessories, and strapped in the spare tire. Here are some photos:

Very nice. You definitely changed up the look of your truck and added some scale points in the process.

Thanks Adam. I have mixed feelings. I do feel like it turned out a little better than I though it would, but there are still things I don't like (screwheads). This truck and this body have been through so many different transformations.....I think it may be time for a new body soon!
