The new bling hotness

So I was once into R/C crawling way back in the day and got out right after the wheelie king first came out and you had to buy each part individually to make it a 4x. Damnit that was a long time ago...

I recently did some horse trading with a friend and his brother for parts off of a truck I got for free so I'm back in action on the cheap. :D What I ended up with is a couple ax10's. Here's a parts breakdown:

#1

VP chassis
VP front servo/battery/link plate
VP rear link plate
VP dig unit
aluminum threaded axial shocks
bent steel lower links
aluminum upper links
axial HD C hubs
axial hi steer knuckles & behind axle steering
axial rear lockouts
some sort of stainless rear shafts
MIP cvd's
lightened stainless trans lockout.
white compound hot bodies rovers on some beefy plastic beadlocks with uber beef rings and lots of lead in the front

Castle creations SV2 with holmes hobies crawl master 540
JR650M servo

#2

Delrin chassis
aluminum upper links
aluminum lower front links
bent stainless rear lower links
axial aluminum C hubs
axial high steer knuckles
MIP cvd's
traxxas aluminum hard coated shocks
VP front servo/battery/link plate
VP dig unit
some sort of delrin or HDPE rear link plate
white compound rovers with narrowed beadlocks with memory foam and lots of lead in the front

RC4WD out cry speed control
Holmes Hobies 35 turn hand wound motor

They came with 4 1300 3S lipo's and a charger to go with them so for once in my sad little R/C life I have decent batteries. So far I've torn them both down and hi graded all the parts onto one rig and started tweaking it to my liking. And of course I have gratuitous crappy cell phone pics to go with this post. I swapped to an airtronics 94358 too so now it actually steers decently. :D

I dropped the front servo plate down low enough I had to clearance the diff for the servo mount screw.

I also rebuilt the axial shocks and used 80 wt oil and added a clip on motor hear sink from my days of racing a gold chassis rc10.

And the standard issue pointless flex shot. :D

I'm not sure what I'm going to do next other than do up a body and start bending some tube. I'm thinking my old maxx will be a scale tow rig and I'll build a trailer for the two axials. One will be more of a trail rig, the other will be more of a comp rig but I'm not sure how serious I want to get. I am ditching the traxxas 3 channel radio for a modded gt3b.

So tinkering with the rig today I swapped the VP link mount for the plastic one off the other rig. This allowed me to rotate the pinion down just a touch and put longer links on with less triangulation. So far so good, I'll get it out tomorrow to give it a real test on some big rocks. :D Also swapped the other (fugly) body on so I gained some turning.

Re: The new bling hotness

Due to the overwhelming response I've received in this thread I'll continue on sharing in my journey. :flipoff:

Another day another little project complete.

I was browsing a build thread in another section and saw something that I really liked. I cut the upper mount off the traxxas shocks, drilled a hole in the cap and ran a stainless cap screw through from the inside and secured it with a thin 3mm nut on the outside. Then I threaded a traxxas rod end onto the screw. I really like this setup, it gave me the clearance I needed for the BTA steering on the front. I refilled the shocks with fresh 80 wt and slapped them back on. I gained a bit of compression due to the added travel of the shocks and moving the upper mount up to compensate for the increased length. These shocks are valved a bit stiffer too so it is more controlled. I like it. :D

I swapped the white for losi yellow springs in the rear too. Much nicer control of torque twist with this basically minor switch. I'm a happy camper. :D

Looks good! Photos are a little blurry :lmao:

A while back CrazyOrigin made shock caps but I don't know if anyone else took over for him or not or what happened to them. They were nice since you didn't have to hack the original caps up any "thumbsup"

Re: The new bling hotness

Yea my droid used to take great photos till I scratched the lens all to shiat.

I saw some shock caps like I made that were prefabbed but I'm impatient and I have a decade or so of old r/c crap from when I used to race and build crawlers so I just made them. I figured if I fawked them up I'd just buy new ones and put the old shocks back on.

Wicked Wolf RC took them over and makes them now!"thumbsup"

BTW,If you got of that "on the cheap" that looks like a really good score there!

Wicked wolf sounds right. I saw them in a build thread on here. I've been spending most of my free time reading on here trying to play catch up since my last post in '07 when I dropped out of r/c. My how things improved over the years! All of it for the better too. :D

As for the score you are correct. I profit on every deal I make and this one is a helluva score. Parts off a free truck I was going to scrap anyway for over a grand worth of r/c crap? Hell yea!

Looking good. Trying to figure out who's rigs those were.

Missed you at werock in Goldendale.

Re: The new bling hotness

I'm not sure if they were on here or not, they had built the rigs then left them to sit while working on their 1:1 rigs and tow rigs. I'm pretty sure at least one of them was on EWRCRC's old site. Speaking of which, I guess it'd make sense to join over there too. Anyone going to the comp in Walla Walla at the end of the month? The wife spotted a flier at hobby town and thinks we should go.

I wanted to go to G dale but my family reunion was the same weekend and lets face it, the old people ain't going to live forever so I gotta spend time with them when I can. :D

Re: The new bling hotness

There has been talk by a few of going to walla walla from EWRCRC. The blue and orange one looks familiar as does the silver and blue one.

They both came out of Prosser so they were local before I got them and they were used when they got them so I'm sure they've been passed around a bit. Damned radio control whores I tell ya!

Looks good will have to go rc'n sometime

Re: The new bling hotness

Yea OG for sure.

I actually just got back from fintucky with the rig. Need to swap some softer oil into the shocks, I think the 80 wt is a touch much. That and it needs a whole bottle of loctite dumped on it. I was chasing mip set screws the whole fawking time.

Needs a whole lot more ugly florescent paint and then it would look right.

Jealousy is a stinky cologne Erik. I'll buy parts from you when you get with the program and have pink logo stickers made. :flipoff:

Once upon a time when you were in elementary school deeeee lux lived in Portland and I drove my yota down to tsf and he came over this way to goldendale to wheel. Does that make me like an R/C hipster? "I knew D lux before he was cool".

Not possible. I was cool back then, right? :flipoff:

Pink is not a problem. Its actually on the shelf. I just figured I would offend more people by sending them then not offering them at all.
