Default Josh's 2013 gc3a sporty

So i have decided to build a sportsman rig for 2013 from parts i have laying around, also using some bits that were pinched from my scaler jeep which doesn't get used enough to justify itself.

first off here is a look at the parts i already have

gatekeeper chassis and link kit

holmes hobby brxl
scx10 diffs with o/d front & u/d rear
scx transmission with rrp internals and vp dig which has been removed
HH 45T torquemaster

first on the todo list was to lose the dig and add some m3 brass inserts to the trans housing and rebuild the transmission with Al screws left over from my xr agent build

Then to eliminate the slipper clutch i drilled through the existing bolts holding the spur gear in place and tapped the slipped assembly to end up with this

Also added a bwd motor sav'r i had laying around and this completed the transmission.

The rear axle out of my scale jeep had the post cut off, luckily i had a spare housing that was unmolested, swapped the u/d r & p into the new housing added all Al screws and also drilled the posts and added m3 brass inserts aswell

Rear axle is now bolted upto the links,

shocks will be scx10 with creation fab spring retainers jeepindoug cups and mini t springs.
Front diff will rock VP xr10 knuckles creation fab premium wide delrin tubes o/d gears and the monster 7990 out of the scaler which will need new servo posts made for.

Thats as far as i can go until my creationfab order turns up.
Also i am on the look out for some gunnar mounts if anyone knows of any

Josh

So I took this truck out for its first run yesterday all indications point to a competitive rig once tuned.
The truck is running around 60-70 mm skid height.
I am now sporting a d mount rear upper link mount

After driving it yesterday I found it lacked castor so I rotated the c hubs back one spline, I am also waiting on a set of 7075 steer arms from cw crawlers

Hoping get it tuned before the first competitive round of cANZ & also our local groups first comp

Small update:
I have been enjoying driving this rig more than my pro rig lately.
I got some LCC rodends to lengthen the shocks if needed but for now I will be it at 68mm skid height until I have driven a comp with it.

I have made a couple of changes.

The short arms supplied with the vp wraith knuckles were hitting the axle housing limiting steering,
My solution to this problem is a set of CWcrawlers 7075 steering arms.

Which brings my steering to this:

Also after browsing a few threads on here i decided to give making cf tube links ago

First I made a jig using an old steel rule

Then cut the cf tube to length with a dremel and roughed up the ends with some emery paper

These links are 5mm od so the rodends where drilled out and then ca glued them to the tubes

These are the rear upper links, I will be epoxying and pinning the rodends also aswell as making a set out of 4mm od cf tube (misplaced my 4mm drill bit to drill the rodends)

I also figured its a new comp season so new tyres all round I have snipped two sets of boss claws for both this rig and my pro rig I just need to shave the sidewalls and mount them up.

So I've been doing alittle more work with the cf links.
I have made 4mm links for both front and rear uppers, with the 4mm links I decided to go with epoxy as the adhesive.
This is the one I used

The front links are pinned and the rears soon to be also using 1mm nails

1150 pins for $3 is good value in my books
I made my front uppers shorter so I could get them on top of the link plate to gain some more separation at the axle.
This a a standard front upper link from the gatekeeper kit

And this is both front upper links made from 4mm cf tube

This puts the rtr weight at 1826g with my smaller 450 4s batteries.

I would go more with a calibration error myself. He probebaly adjusted the scale calibration and then set his truck up there.

Joshie, Ive a nube question....why do u need to remove the dig. Can u have one on the rig but simply not use it in comps?

That adds more weight up high were you don't want it... So if you aren't going to use it at comps anyways there's no point in having it there which will make you have a higher COG

Where did you get the threaded brass inserts that you have in the trans and axle housings? What size are they? That's a great fix for stripped out holes!!

the main reason i removed the dig is because this truck is sportsman class and dig isnt used, it could have been left in but the extra weight is a pain and i sold it to buy other parts.
