I'm currently running Tomi's optional plate with the servo under the left, 4S battery under the right and I grafted on a t-plate with a full size BRXL under that. XR steering with full BTA. Not very photogenic because everything is underneath and out of sight. But then that's the point, isn't it?

With the mini esc I think the RX and bec can join the esc down there.

No, actually I need a few changes. You can see in the photo I had to slot the servo holes quite a bit. And I think I'll move the servo over to the other corner for various reasons. And the tongue needs to be a particular shape to accommodate 3 pieces of electronics. And need certain features for electronics attachment. In the past Tomi sent me his dwg and I red-lined it to my needs and shot it back to him.

The FL will get a 35T Tekin handwound motor, as I have one in the spare parts. A good motor is the last thing I need for my nr.1 shafty, I have been looking at HH and Br00d motors and am not sure what I need ....

Be sure to read what Holmes says about using that motor. Check his cobalt puller thread, where he says not to use the SL in a shafty.

Agreed.. I have the 13t 500 pullers w/ heavy cans... Not a huge weight gain at 141 grams, but the results have been huge in performance!

Finally some parts came in today … a nice box of parts from NCD headquarters. The package was severly beaten up and the look of it made me nervous to open it. Luckily the content was just fine. I went ahead and started assembling the NCD lightweight tranny .

Contents NCD Lightweight tranny for Sudu1 FL chassis:

-CF 2.5mm housing plates (2 pc)
-CF 1.5mm shim plate (1 pc)
-Alloy spacers (4 pc)
- Flanged bearings (6 pc)
-Delrin skidplate
-M3 hardware

The gearbox is designed around the RC4WD R2 gears, and are not included in the NCD kit. You will need to get the gears seperatly, check links below to see what you need:

http://store.rc4wd.com/Heavy-Duty-Gears-Parts-for-R2-Transmission_p_835.html
http://store.rc4wd.com/Long-Shaft-5mm-for-R2-Transmission_p_836.html

First step is inserting the flanged bearings and the brass bushings from the R2 gears set in the tranny plates. Then attach the alloy spacers to one of the plates.

Next step, shimming the output shaft, is very important and can be somewhat timeconsuming because of assembling and disassembling the tranny several times, finding out the best result. The RC4WD R2 outputshaft has a pressfit ring and gear so there are small differences in dimensions between them. I ended up using the the smallest and one of the big shims on the gear side and the medium one on the ring side, as shown in the pic below.

Third step is installing the second and third gear with the axles and brass spacers from the R2 gears set. All gears in the pics are drilled to loose some weigth, the stock ones are not .

Last step is lining up the second housing plate and tighten everything together with the included M3 blackoxide hardware.

Included in the kit is a replacement skidplate specially designed for use of the NCD lightweight tranny. The tranny uses 2 bolts for mounting on the skidplate, the skidplate has tree mounting holes. This way you can flip your skid around, and with the ability to mirror the tranny you can set it up with the gearbox in front or back and with the motor left or right, any combo you like !

What's the weight Ronald? I'm working mine down, but don't have a long output shaft for a baseline weight. Short shaft baselined at 52g. With stock gears, no skid or skid screws.

Thank you sir. Don't know how much the drilled gears are worth but if I were to guess -2g each, then the starting point would be 57g with a long output.

You should David, the tranny is a very cool piece. Tomi did a very good job on the design and offcourse his machining skills are second to none .

Hope to get some work done on the FL tonight ...
