The Rental- Colby's ECC comp rig

ECC Is the only comp I like to compete in anymore. I asked Grimreaper if I could mess around with his S class truck, although its more of a pro class shafty.

This rig was originally built by Gunnar. I beleive its the FF-4 that is narrowed? I havent been keeping up with all these chassies and things. It handles great, however it has a VP dig on it. I cant decide if I want to run 2.2p or 2.2s with it. It just depends on what day I do the scale comp.

The electronics all mount on the front axle, It has no wheel weight and am currently planning on running the cobras because LRC has alot of those pesky holes. Will have the shaved rovers with me as well.

I love how it handles, I have driven many shaft trucks as well as MOA, have done well with MOAs but on pure climbing ability i love the shafty.

Here are some pics:

I feel like it may have too much flex?

That is really nice. how does one achieve that look with the paint on the body?

It looks to be a splatter. I didnt paint it, but if It was me, id dry some black paint out on a brush, stick the brush into the black and spatter it onto the body, let it dry and spray yellow "thumbsup"

That body looks horrible. Whoever painted it should be shot...in the scrotum.

That's pretty much what it did. Bad color combo. :)

Got some Knuckle weights on the way from Szczerba. This will be the first rig I have driven with knuckle weights....

Took some better detail pics. The first batch sucked. Any suggestions on anything??? I feel blind trying to set a rig like this up.

Relax, it's April 1. Besides, with a shot-away scrotum, it would be much easier to sing along to my favorite Rush tunes! :ror:

So, looks like the front axle has been removed/ruined. I wonder if it still has the cromo beef tubes inside? Doubt it, clocking looks wrong, etc.

This is what it used to look like:

Those are nice sand tires. It needs Rovers or 'donas.

Remind me to never sell my rigs to anyone, please.

Hey the cobras are hooking awesome! But I guess I will quit fawkin around and put the shaved rovers with nova foams back on "thumbsup"

As far as the front axle goes... it was just a stock AX10 axle with an aluminum little 3 link mount and like an axial 4 link/servo mount plate. Stock inner axles with over drive gear. Even had plastic axle C's when I got it and I probably broke 6 in 1 day..

Re: The Rental- Colby's ECC comp rig

So with this being a rental, are you going to spend some money on making it better, or run it as is? I would suggest Axial CVD's at least, or VVD's. If it were mine again, I would go for the XR-10 mod. Battery and servo back on the axle, as before.

Re: The Rental- Colby's ECC comp rig

Im going to make small tweaks to it, but other than that leave it as is. I have my own sporty in the works. I think I have everything including the XR10 modded axles, besides a chassis links and light weight wheels. 8)

So why not put this chassis and suspension on your axles?

Re: The Rental- Colby's ECC comp rig

Because it belongs to Johnny, I am just renting it for ECC. Hence, the Rental

Thanks for the pics. When I got the truck it was without axles:cry:. I have the parts for a narrowed wraith axle with universals. Maybe it will get put back together properly one day.

With Super 300's and cromoly beef tubes, I could see why someone would want to keep 'em. :)

Colby 05-07-2013 10:07 PM

I can say i was very pleased with this thing at ECC. Ran the shaved rovers and it hooked up extremely well. Ran against the MOAs. Managed to finish a course with a -4 and got really close to a negative score on another, but a driveshaft backed off the trans and cost me a touch and some time. I ended up giving it back to Johnny after i finished all my courses, hopefully we will see some updates
