Default GC-3A Budget Build

Figured I'd make a thread as well...

I wanted to build a comp rig on a budget, so with the help of a few members here I was able to come up with something that should work.

- GC-3A (new)
- Novak Goat 2S (had it)
- Novak 18.5T (had it)
- Hobbico CS170 steering servo (had it)
- Spektrum Z270 dig servo (had it)
- Spektrum RX (had it)
- AX-10 tranny w/ upgraded gears (had it)
- used DNA/VF dig (cheap!)
- SCX-10 front axle from the 4Runner(swapped with other one I had)
- new rear axle housing w/ old gears (cheap)
- Evader ST 4" aluminum shocks w/ cap mod, yellow springs (~$40)
- Losi gold springs ($10)
- unknown 2.2 Vanquish wheels, full set of weights (cheap!)
- white Rovers ($12/pair)
- Axial XC-1 body (cheap)

I think that's about it. I came out pretty good on this one.

Only pic I have, for now...

Looks good, sounds like you got some good parts on the cheap. Should get ya started anyways.

Started? As soon as I get the gold springs in, I'm done buying parts. lol
Although I'd really like to have a greater steering angle...
And the drivetrain is really sloppy...
And these wheels are a little too wide...

edit: nevermind about the flat spots...got that sorted

Awesome chassis, just got mine and I love it! Try the overdrive front/underdrive rear gear combo, it'll make a big difference in turning radius.

Over/under does sound like a good idea.

Anybody know off the top of their head if the AX-10 and SCX-10 come with the same ratio R&Ps? I didn't think to check.

Golds in, Rovers on

Those springs made a huge difference. I set them to about 2.25" under the skid. Tomorrow will be the real test.

Thanks for the compliments.

Did you have the chance to move the links on the chassis?

Yeah, but I couldn't tell a difference on the stuff at home. I'm going to try it out at Flat Rock this afternoon.

Was wondering if you have a part number for the losi gold springs...Are they for 4" shocks or 3.5" . Any help would be appreciated

I do.

LOSA5144 - 2.75", 1.4 Rate (in/lbs?)

I've got 4" shocks. The spring falls out of the cup when the adjuster is at the lowest point. So far I haven't lost a cup. They'll work on 3.5s too, and I assume they will always make contact with the cups so they won't fall off.

It's a lot better. Moving those links, tires, springs...major improvement.

Photos in a few...

This is in the horseshoe on the far right. It ran right up the spot where I was having trouble last week. It still tries to roll, but it's far better.

Another gate from last week. Walks this now.

Close to the same spot. I think Kinson made it up this somehow. I burned nearly an entire pack trying to figure it out. Didn't happen.

Just a photo...

I'm going to make or buy some new foams soon. The stock foams are too small/stiff. Lots of wheel hop becuse of the flat spots.

Take a look at some Nova Double Deuce foams.

I came up with some foams. I only had enough to get the rear tires set up, but it was a big improvment.

But then...Kablammo!

Goat blew up and took my only battery with it. Doh!
