Thanks josh I've been watching this thread waiting for this question to be answered. Im real curious as to how this axle works for you it seems to me a cheaper way to get the same effect as an xr mod if you dont mind running plastic knuckles or chubs which I don't:thumbup: keep up the nice work dude your rig is looking good! Now I am up to speed. Thanks for the help. I may even follow along your path. I'm at the point in my build where I need something to get better steering, and more room up front. Offset pumpkins as a bonus....can't beat that! Very cool. |

So things slowed up alittle on this build, due to maintaining and comping and also I have been anxiously waiting on my 5mm TI rear axles from hulksta engineering. So first I changed out the 5mm shortened shock shafts for some 42mm(8mm shortened) which will now allow my to run no limiting and stops the piston from getting into the bladder. Got my rowdy trusses in and installed Then chucked a hitec 7950 on the front and used one of the truss to link plate bolts to angle the servo While waiting for my rear axles I made links using the measurements krawl posted in the vendor thread. The lowers are 3/16 6061 AL rod and uppers are 1/8 6061 AL rod Turned down for a 4mm thread Links bent, fronts on the left rears on the right. Got the links installed just awaiting rear axles, made a front shaft using 2 maxx females and a male glued into one female. Picked up my axles tonight and got stuck into fitting them up. TI axles made to suit the narrowed housing Installed Chucked it on my WB jig and the pre made links bring the WB out to 315mm(317mm is the metric conversion of 12.5 inches) That brings this thread upto date. So it's about time to do an update on this thing. Got a steering link made from 3/16 6061 AL, this was the second attempt as the bends on the first were too wide and the tires interfered before full lock of the steering, just made a allthread mock up to get lengths. I will be running maxx shafts with the ci outputs, for the shafts I have used two females with a male glued in. My original plans were to run a msw on this truck, it currently has one wired in which will most likely see one test drive before the new HH br mini arrives from 110 crawlers. I will be running a full width set (for now) of gold voodoos with 6.0 CI compcuts soft front, med rear. Hulksta is cutting me a new set of cf glue on wheels to go on this car which I should be picking up this sunday And finally some obligatory flex shots, the body is just an old junker until I get my new xciter painted up. Oh and after seeing the work clay at cfm did on shaving rowdy's ar60 housings I have ordered a set from him which will be shaved and have the ring gear turned down to suit This shows how much the shave will be Maiden voyage this weekend will grab some pics on the rocks. | Re: Josh's Y-Town Crawlers "Villain" Shaftsmen Build I'm right at 10.5 inches o/s of tires, with a 350 hub. The above pictures had 600 hub on the ear and was around 11 inches, once I get my new 3 piece rims I hope to narrow the rear alittle more, as my current shafty has worked well with the narrower rear. So my housings and gears showed up from carter fab today. First thing was to change out the AL filler plate for a 1mm cf plate and change out the button head screws for counter sinks. Showing how much has been shaved Outer diameter of the ring gears, I will grab a standard gear measurement when I swap over the housings. Carbon fibre plate and aluminium countersunk screws And finally the trimmed diff cover The diffs have been shortened and are drying, hope to have them put together tomorow afternoon. I also have my new 3 piece Hulksta Engineering carbon wheels which I will be putting together this week also. Josh |

So my first drive with this truck was last months cANZ sydney comp, i must say i am very impressed with how it handles, sidehills and climbs. Some small changes which will be the last changes before nationals. i changed out the MSW for a Holmes Hobbies BRmini thanks to 110 crawlers. After last comp i have picked up my Hulksta box, i assembled it with a full set of axial machined gears i was going to wait for Krawlfreaks adapter for the villian chassis but being impatient and already having the aluminium standoffs for the lower posts i figured i would draw something up myself. so after some measuring and abit of noob cad i sent this off to Hulksta about 15 minutes later i got a nice suprise of this here you can see the small notch needed in the motor screw post to allow the gears to turn freely. here you can see i have turned one end of the alum standoff down to gain some gear clearance. Finally some weights of the new gearbox with motor, the motor on its own and the old gearbox minus a motor. Dan has done a great job on these gearboxes, the fit and finish is awesome. Josh |

So the adaptor plates Dan made me for my chassis showed up on thursday. Here is a pic of it mounted to the gearbox, then one mounted into the chassis Also a couple of pics from the top and from below of the box mounted in the chassis. I have put in an 18t pinion with my 30T brood and will see how it goes, but from bench testing it will have buckets of wheel speed. I also changed out my front maxx shaft to a junfac for the shear fact that it was the perfect length and i ran out of time to sort out a new maxx shaft. Once again a massive thanks to Dan(Hulksta) for making these gearboxes and also putting my idea onto carbon fibre and nailing it first go. Josh |
