I used to use acorn nuts but last summer I was getting hung up on them when trying to flip over by backing up a rock wall. I switched to using a screw instead and that was how it has been since then. I have now added two carbon fiber rings and the bottom side has a pad of foam to keep the body from rattling or paint from getting scraped off. Everything came out so well I decided to make myself a set. With the body mounted it has much more rigidity than my previous setup. Very happy with the outcome...... And very lightweight and smooth on the outside as well.

Great looking body Mount's Barry!

I have a new body for this season, we better add a set to my wish list! ;)

That thing is old! I really need to paint a new one. That body was on my last stock Berg I built 4 years ago and took to the Turkey Crawl........ I have had an Xciter sitting in a bag close to a year now. Gotta work on "wish lists" first! Lol

I have been playing around with some new ideas in the axle department and decided to try something with my old setup. This truck was built on axles that I have had around for years.. Actually this truck was my first crawler back in 08 and still has a few original pieces on it. The rear axle had the UD gears added a couple of year back but otherwise it was basically stock. I decided to try some design ideas on it and I am pleased with the results. I also wanted to get rid of some wheel spacers in the process. I tore the axle apart and started fabricating new parts. I replaced the locker with a new UL one I made and made Ti axles. I made a set of tubes to extend the width out as well. The width is now 5mm narrower than the front axle and the wheels mount up with zero spacers front or rear and give me a happy 10.75 and 10.5 track width and no hassles.

Here is the beginning weight

The end results....

I didn't record the CG before but afterwards it balanced out just forward of the skid with 1.5 oz of KW. I took it out to a local comp spot and picked a old Pro course that I seem to remember well. It was a great course and has been a place often practiced on. I was amazed that the lines I found difficult before with my Pro this updated truck was pulling with ease. I was having a great time until my motor wire decided to pull loose from the ESC and cut my fun short. I have to get this problem fixed but I think this new rear axle has spiced this truck up. Can't wait to drive it again!

Now for some on the rocks pics

Beest, This is set number 2. I learned some new things from this build (besides not reaching behind a spinning lathe head that cost me half a thumbnail!) and need to redo number one again. I have number 3 already spoken for but I hope to have the bugs worked out in a week or two and start offering something. I am still not sure how much pre fab needs to be done and how to offer the setup. Number 3 is also a complete setup and I asked him to send me gears and housing and I will send a complete axle.

So will the new axles need to run the Shift Hubs? It also looks like they will need to be drilled out to fit the new shafts.
