| Bulldog Shafty Tranny
Seems like everyone is doing a Shafty Tranny lately. All this got me thinking about what I could do with what I already have. Sooooo.... Here is a first prototype. The case is fully enclosed, uses Berg gears, is small enough to fit in the standard location, has a 4mm thick motor plate, and has the exact same gear ratio as a stock AX10 using a 11t pinion. Pretty slick. If you used berg axles gears I wonder if the plastic Exceed berg gears would work/hold up? Guys have been running those without issues in bergs.

Interesting stuff, as is all the other lateral gearboxes showing up on RCC, but what is the advantage to using Berg gears? I would think with all the XR10's out there, Axial gears are easier to acquire and maybe even cheaper.

| Not that's not even subtle..... Hummmmmm...... I guess I could use a tester for this...... Lol You game? I would think that would work. I am using RC4WD gears in this one. Still working on the mount and truss brace. Should fit most chassis in the stock location. Last edited by ClassiCutCustoms; 11-17-2013 at 01:47 PM. |

Hmm I was wondering how soon someone would make one with Berg gears... Didn't take long I guess... What's the weight difference vs a stock AX gearbox?

| Well I have no idea... I have a stock tranny at the moment and decided this was easier and cheaper than buying steel gears, hardened outputs, 32p spurs and beefed up motor plate. By the time all that is done you will have a fortune in a ax10 tranny and it is still bigger than this.

Man O man that looks like a winning combo. This Ohio driver needs to make some room for this chassis and gear box. Can you say new sporty build |

| I am not a XR10 guy and never plan to be..... I love the Berg and have had such a good experience with it and have seen so many XR10 gears broken over the years. I am sure the XR10 based gear boxes work but I would rather have a 11t pinion than a 20t pinion and one less fear cluster to deal with. Plus with the 16mm thick gearbox I can still fit the same footprint of the stock configuration. Win win win

Congrats! It's looking great and I have to say that you are very smart and fast at filling market gaps. From what I see you are not "re-inventing the wheel" king of guy but you're always on the right spot with the right product. (No irony here! Its an honest compliment!) By the way, I have my bully gears out on the open and thinking about doing something similar (at least as a project on Solidworks). If only I had the equipment do make it real... ...mine is Thursday... Anyway, I was just thinking about that kind of setup the other day, thinking it would eliminate the giant spur. |
