El Nino III build for "Winner"

13 Attachment(s)
My long awaited change has come thru and as I started putting my Chaotic El Nino III together, I quickly realised, I was building a second sporty. My previous BWD sss-rs-cf has served me well and I couldn't tear it apart. I have kids, mainly my 4yr daughter that can't wait to start crawling and goin to comps with dad, son, and even wife that drove it at the NENQ this past year. Better save it
Plus it gives me reason to start fresh.. so here goes..

I put the chassis together and at first twist, I felt the quality and time put into this chassis. Not to mention, its super sexy!

Attachment 263598

Links and 4 link plates showed up, all shiny an shiz..

Attachment 263610

Revo ends and aluminum balls came in and got busy..

Attachment 263599

Got rained out of work so "just" goin to throw the links on and the rest of the cross braces.. and... link plates

Attachment 263600

Attachment 263601

Attachment 263602

As with most addictions and addicts, can't stop now!
So a mach up tranny went in.. VP motor plate, steel gears, steel outputs with the hole thru.. only thing left would be a 32p spur and it Could stay..

Attachment 263603

Attachment 263604

And then... well, I have these hopped up scx axles just sitting here.. VP stage 1 8*, vvd's, ti tie rod, ud in the rear and only a few scratches.. Run em!

Attachment 263608

Some stock scx shocks and we have a slider..

Attachment 263605

Which led into link placement and adjustments..
I like my rear shaft above the links to keep from dragging, so I unscrewed the rod ends till I was happy with it. That led to binding of the revo ends on the link plate, so I took the middle ball stand off, cut the upper side off and mounted.. all free and clear.

Attachment 263606

What the heck.. let's throw some rubber at it and make it a roller!

Attachment 263607

MIP shaft in the front and wb8 in the rear..
Steering isn't horrible at 50* but narrow..
Attachment 263609

That's what I got for now.. Lots more to come.:cool:

very correct John.. actually only a thick spacer in the front and the hub itself in the rear..
I have plenty to put on yet, even a couple thick Dlux spacers if needed..

@Dlux.. I had the shift hub and 1/4" spacer in at 10".. I now have a .450 Slw and Dlux 1/4" spacer on the front for 10.5" in the front and 10" in the rear with the spacer and Shift hub.. so I was at a .450? Now a .7? The wheels have a offset as well, like a 3 piece wheel..

@Crawllife Graphix.. easy buddy! It was a long day that day and just couldn't stop! Wasn't thinking of the dirty tires, just that sexy chassis..

But..... since I had some time before turkey coma, I decided to do an little work.. got some parts an pieces around..

Attachment 263749

Luckily I had some donor shocks here to get some o-rings out of.. Thanks donor! :D

Attachment 263750

After tear down and flush, I replace the black plastic with a 3rd o-ring and some green slime..
The machined pistons are O So nice! I have had them for some time and never felt the need to tear into my other shocks, as they perform flawlessly.
Only problem with them, that I found.. now I got 2 more sets ordered for my other 2 rigs.

Attachment 263751

And all rebuilt.. longer shock/link end for the rear and 30wt oil. 25wt for the front

Attachment 263752

A little stiff at first, but they break in nicely after a few suspension cycles by hand and super smooth!
Now for ride height and cleaned side walls, just for you David!

Attachment 263753

On to a little something that may just take ur eye off the dirty rubbers and on to more impressive viewing pleasure!

Attachment 263754

Attachment 263755

A little custom work by David himself.. some Crawllife Graphix on board!:cool:

Since the family is in bed, And I want this thing on the rocks ASAP! I pulled together some backup electronics and goin to start on placement..

Attachment 263771

After I made the backwards servo guard or no hole guard, I realized, I can't even use it on the 7980 :/ not until I get the axr axles built.. oh well..

HH br mini, HH 30t Team pro flow, 60/12 32p gears, cc bec, and a airtronics rx..

Time to do some work before bed and getting up to go to work..

Nice Troy! You're doing exactly what I did, gotta get it running and change from there! I'm glad I did that instead of waiting for all the good stuff, at least you can drive it and experience the changes as you go. Funny thing is, as soon as I drove it and realized how much I liked it, I went and spent a fortune on all the good stuff! My thread will be gettin some updates soon!"thumbsup"

How bout it Bob... its hard for me right now to wait to build the axles that will live under this animal but in the long run, I know it will be worth the wait!

Axial parts tree # AX80005. They're typically used at the ends of Axial's upgraded (aluminum) steering tie rod.
