I want to say that EYs voodovers were amazing today! I'd recommend the laalaa style rovers for any light weight sporty!

So here is my brand new truck in 49 parts already. Should have gone with spools instead of lockers. No matter what I tried I couldn't get them tight enough. Yes, I've heard of locktite. So I'm waiting on locked up spools. Hopefully I'll have them in a week or so.

I was lucky enough to get a chance to run David's rig yesterday and all I can say is.. I need to get me some of those!!! It's been a while since I heard a tire bite that Hard on a rock.. It sounded like suction cups as the over drive was pulling faster then the rear.

The other thing that made me grin ear to ear(and mad mad mad, on the inside, ;)) was the ridiculousness of the HH 30t 400 puller.... Close to as smooth as a crawl type motor, without bein one, as I have felt. The punch of of crawl motor, wheel speed of a Pro4, and the torque of a torquemaster pro. Absolutely awesome motor!
And it sounds like a jet when it spools up and take off like a rocket!
I even got to watch David do some breakdancing with his rig.. Between the grip of the tires and Powa of that HH, a tire barely had to touch a rock with David's throttle finger and it was like an explosion! Lol..

Rig looked great all around! Superb job on the build David...

It felt great while I was running it as well, I would be happy as could be with the out come, if I were the owner. ;)

Little update. With all the time and loot that went into this rig, one thing that was neglected was gearing. It was time to address that today. 56t duratrax spur and a12t RR pinion. The 12t feels pretty good and I'm about to venture out to see how it feels on the rocks. I have a 10t if I feel I lost control. Lastly a pic of rig with some negative space rollers overlooking our comp spot yesterday.

I know wheels speed is fun, but I think 56/12 is still gonna be way to fast. The 10t is gonna be a much better choice, and a 9t will likely be the best option considering that motor seems like a zippy fella.

And your chassis brace looks almost as if it's gel coated or something.

I also wanted to try a bit more clearance out back. I had these laying around from an old project. I think between shock tuning this afternoon and these higher clearance links, I'll be in much better shape.

I have to agree..... 9t is really close to stock ratio. I have one on the bench from another build...... New of course! I can throw it in with your other parts if you like. Let me know

10t is a great pinion on this motor, or atleast what I'm running on my HH 30t 400 puller..
Great start up, low end grunt, and a good wheel speed without pushing heat to rise. If less wheel speed is wanted, a 9t would be the way to go.(as a option).. I may try my 11t next, for a touch more wheel speed(not that it needs it), but still keeps it above a 5:1 gear ratio.

I have a 10t here. I'm motoring around with the 12t as I type this and don't find it to be too much at all. Im trying to learn from "hands on " more than just what I read. I seem to be able to creep and buggie to my next gate and it's smooth. Now if there is. Other reasons besides control with moving to a smaller pinion, that's a lesson I'd like to hear. I'm always looking to learn guys.
To the link question, they are actually from a ECD ringer. I'm a 1/16tj shorter so I'll be loosening some rod ends.

Gel coated chassis braces? Stop giving my secrets away. I'm not sure what you mean but the braces are gel free brother

I would suspect the 10t would give less motor heat.... More torque..... More low end finesse.... And longer battery life. Don't take lipos below 20‰.....higher is safer. Test for yourself and see the difference. Yes..... I have a few parts left over from before I built a tranny. I will have to see what is laying around

As far as gearing, I don't think it makes much difference on these lightweight trucks. I'm using a 60T 32P with 9T pinion on the SP and there is lots of top end with a 16T Holmes 500 crawl type puller (similar to 35T).

So, anywhere in the 56/12 to 60/9 range will work fine, IMO.

You guys are always such a big help. I'm grateful for this forum. I just got a pm from someone that explained this to me simply. Although I find this combo easy to control, it's actually harder on the motor. That part didn't bother me until I read further down that this in turn heats my esc faster. If this is the case, the 12t comes off. I've had enough electronics goblins this season to last a lifetime. Thanks again RCC

Ok, I might have this wrong, but that's a heck of a gap..

56/12(4.66:1 gear ratio) to 60/9 (6.66:1 gear ratio)

JRH doesn't recommend goin past 5:1.. So 56/11(5.09:1) or 60/12(5:1) would be biggest pinion on either spur..

60/9 is balls deep in torque!

Ok, thanks again to all of you. This is a great season for learning the stuff I never wanted to know. I just got the 10t on there and it seamed to take much longer for my esc smash to heat up. As I mentioned above, escs are not my friend! So if the 10t makes it happy, I'm happy.

Yes it is a big gap, but it seems to be working on these light trucks.
All I've seen at Holmes for a spur/pinion change is his suggestion to go 87/16 on the Wraith with the Crawlmaster, which makes sense as some of those Wraiths out there are 10 lbs

I've been running 56/12 on my 8.5 lb Wraith for 3 years with the Crawlmaster and it does just fine. I'm sure the Puller 500's are likely not as tough as the Crawlmasters, but we're talking 4 lb or less trucks here.

I like a little lower gear on my SP as it has VooDoos and those tires like to go slooow for best grip.

The sucker punch worked very well at BG. Blowing the 5th course kept me from a shot at the finals course but I had a blast! I'd like to thank 5thD , Creation Fab, EYD and CF for their support and killer products.
