If it's the original AX10, I would be doing the XR10 mod.

"the XR10 mod"? i don't know what that means. p.s. i have replaced the plastic drag link & tie rod to aluminum, and replaced the servo saver with a rigid plastic servo horn. |

The simplest method is to use universals for the AX10. This will be the cheapest, but, the XR10 mod is by far and away the best way forward. How seriously are you into crawling? If it's just for fun the first option may serve you adequately well. |

Simpler, yes. Cheaper, no. RCBros makes tubes that almost bolt in, brass or aluminum, and are very cool. You just have to tap a couple holes. Roughly $50 a pair. Got to RCBros.com and you can find build thread details on how to install his version. Very helpful. The universals are $30-35 and you can't get around that part. It's the most important part really. With the RCBros tubes you don't have to modify the locker end of the universals. They'll be the right length already. You'll still have to clearance the joint to get smooth rotation at extreme angles; but that's not that hard to do since they come apart. A file, or a dremel works there. You'll be getting rid of the knuckles and c-hubs you have most likely, so there's more $$. It's not a cheap mod to do, but it's the standard in the industry right now for super strong, crazy amounts of steering. The stock AX10 stuff, or AX10 CVD's won't match it on any level for strength, or turning ability. At least from what I've seen. Just gotta ask yourself, how bad do you want better steering? |

Bare minimum you can do without doing the xr mod is a high steer knuckle & cvd type axle shafts None of the are recommendations on what you have to use, just examples of the types to use, there are other brands out there as well either of these can be used with the stock c-hub Axial Hi-clearance Knuckles (2pcs) Hot Racing Axial AX-10 Scorpion Crawler RC Car upgrades and Hop-ups & this Axial AX10 SCX10 Competition Universal Joint Drive Shaft Set (1 Pair) if you want to throw more money at it, then these instead VANQUISH SCX-10 8 DEGREE KNUCKLES SILVER VANQUISH SCX-10 8 DEGREE Chubs Silver you HAVE to use the 8 degree parts in combination, can't be used with the stock c-hub & if you want, these, but it sound like you're on a budget, so maybe not. Vanquish Products AX10 SCX10 VVD Heavy Duty Axle shafts Don't fall for either of these, they're nice aluminium but don't help your steering, they're the same as the stock plastic, see how the arm is on the center with the bearing hole not at the top of the knuckle like those 2 . 1. Assuming that your axle joints can handle a steeper angle, a longer control horn will increase the amount of throw. 2. Check your radio, some radios have EPA or End Point Adjustment which allows you to increase servo throw. 3. If your axels have universal joints, swap the axels for a set with CV type joints. They can handle sharper angles and don't suffer from lash. 4. Adding a dig will make your truck turn sharper from a stop. Not to patronize so forgive if you already know this... a dig locks the rear so the front can pull the truck around... kinda like tanks turn. Hey, have you considered adding rear wheel steering? You might be able to buy an AX10 front axel and another servo... can't cover all the mod in one post, but most of the rest is wiring the two servos. Good luck! |

2. That's a good point, the steering could easily be limited by incorrect epa settings. 3. If he has universal type axles he would already have the "xr" mod done but since he has the stock stuff it's "dog bone and cup" axles in there now. 4. Yes dig is handy but I'd recommend offsetting the differential gearing before a dig unit. The dig only helps when it's engaged but the gearing helps at all times. | ||

plz take a look at this picture here, this is how much my wheel can turn until it is stopped by the suspension. it is not much, and this seems to be my problem. so the high steering, and universals will not help much here, i first need to resolve this problem. is there a way to improve this? |

That is how far your steering can go without the tie rod hooked to the other side. Put the tie rod back on and you'll be limited by the opposite knuckle hitting the axle housing before you get that much steering. From the looks of it you're using an original ax10 with the lower links on the outside of the skid plate. Modifying the skid plate so the links mount towards the middle of the skid will narrow up the links so the tires don't hit them. |

2 problems I found: #1 - per my image above, and WHITE-TRASH answer to it - the wheel is rubbing the suspension spring, not the lower links. so narrowing the links might be good for other reasons but it will not resolve this steering issue. #2 - my radio EPA is set to its max but still when turned all the way it does not give a great deal of angle. see this image it shows the servo turned all the way, and this is the wheel angle it gives me. as can be seen the tie-rod is detached so the limitation is from the servo itself can i do something to improve? or am i stuck? |

Narrow the links and switch the positions of the lower shock and link so the shock is on the inside of the link and you'll have more clearance. You can always run a bit wider hex or switch wheels to some with less backspace so they clear everything.

Sure, a longer arm will help as long as the servo has the power to twist it.
