| So I started another sporty.....
Saved some parts from the winter slim down. My entry into this hobby was a RTR Wraith turned sporty, I had alot of fun making the conversion & fell for the class. I knew another 2.2s was in my future. I felt like I fought the AR60 axles most of the time so I decided to go with AX10 / SCX10 axles. I picked up some axles & a tranny. Axles have steel beef tubes & axial high steer knuckles up front. Tranny already was halfway to "all Traxxassed up," so I finished with some emaxx yokes & shafts. Slipper Clutch Assembly Slipper Pressure Plate and Hub Aluminum Alloy (Part # TRA5556) Steel Disc with Friction Pads, Spring & Retainer Nut (Part # TRA5552) Spur Gear 54T 0.8 Metric Pitch (Part # TRA3956) 5x11x4mm Ball Bearing (Part # TRA5116) Three (3) Cap Head Machine Screws (Part # TRA2554) Two (2) Button Head Machine Screws (Part # TRA2577) I use the TRA4928x Yokes & the TRA4951 long shafts cut to length I also made a rear 4 link mount out of a servo mount plate. The axles with these wheels & tires have about a 10" width track so I am figuring a 11" wheel base is a good place to start. Thats a start. Picked up some (what I believe are ) Stock ax10 chassis sides (now I need a skid.) I have shocks but I think they will need to look like this. Last edited by Dostradamas; 06-05-2014 at 02:23 PM. |

So much time tinkering. I picked up some Traxxass parts # 5319 Steel pushrods for lower links # 5525 revo links & balls # 1942 jato inks & balls I also lucked into a stock East End Machine Ax10 single reverse triangulation skid plate from a LHS. Put some new deans & a new CC BEC on a used Mamba max I picked up. A couple set Lundsford Ti super duty plus tie rods for upper links Body & BTH steering from skywker51 (he insisted I take plenty o parts home with me, Thanks again.) I spent allot of time narrowing the front suspension & am almost there 12.5" Wheel base 10" wide front & rear & weighs a nice 5# 3 oz RTR Last edited by Dostradamas; 06-02-2014 at 10:34 AM. |

I finally dumped the axial BTA for the other one I had. I have steering! I also moved the rear shocks mounting point down & back a bit to get a better stance. I am curious about this skid tho. It has triangulation in the rear but the front is way more parallel, I assume this is done for a reason but I do not know why? Why not just do triangulation front & rear? I like what you've done here. It looks very decent considering you have mostly stock, borrowed, or stolen parts on it. Keep up the good work. |

| Re: So I started another sporty..... I took her out this morn for a bit of torture on my rocks. I went from a square last year (12 1/2" WB with 12" track width) to 12 1/2" WB with 10" & what a difference. Hopefully sunny weekend to break her in a bit. I swapped the Mamba out for the ol' FXR till I can get to a castle link & hopefully smooth it out a bit. Really happy with the Traxxas slipper. It works as a slipper should, I don't notice it till I get bound up then it slips & saves me buying parts. The 54T 32p Spur also gives loads of room for the Maxx yokes coming out of the tranny. This sporty is coming together really nicely! I wish I still had my GC3-A chassis and links laying around. I would totally give it to you for your budget build! I have some XR mod tubes and plastic XR Chub's I can donate though! TOM |

I have splined and non of the Delrin variety. They aren't "back cut" but I can try to do that for ya. Then they capture the end of the axle housing keeping it from spreading

I am planning on starting with stock chubs & knuckles then going to axial Al when I can afford it. I am thinking splined is good if I am using xr chubs? What do you think? Back cut sounds good to me. I guess I do need to list some stuff & get at least $40 in my paypal so I can get some XR uni's heading this way. Feeling a lot more love this year. Thanks |

Basically THIS set up. Just flipped with the tie rod behind and under the pinion. When you can afford it, I would run VP wraith knuckles or the Dlux knuckles.

I went VP on my wraith turned sporty. Fastback II used to be Wraith If I knew then what I do now I would have not sold my knucks & chubs The axials I think are plenty for me. I run 35-55 turn on 3s & actually use a slipper.

So in that thread it is no splines up front ( I assume for clocking to the exact angle one wants rather than choosing one of the splined slots) & splined in the rear. So I am thinking splined front & rear. PM me how we can work out a way for me to get hold of your tubes. |

The splines are for keeping the Chub from rotating on the axle housing/tube. If you rely on screws, they tend to come loose over time. There is a lot of stress trying to rotate the Chubs when crawling. The splines were a great solution offered by Axial. The rear doesn't have any rotational force on the lock outs, so splines aren't necessary.

So the hacked up Aluminum mount was not a permanent fix. I modded my rear shocks with Jato rod ends on the tops (or bottoms as I have em) to give me about 3/4" more length to get the stance better. I also swapped wheels for some rockster 2.2 axials. These have a slightly wider offset which with these scx10 high steers & ax10 uni's helps with room & a bit of steering. I dropped all the weight out of the front wheels & am down under 4 1/2#'s. I think I am going to keep this setup as a backup / starter sporty for my kid & those that may need it. Sourdojack & Rcbro's sporty have given me hope to be able to put together another sporty. I don't think I can squeeze out any more steering with this setup.
