Wish I was a prodigy, but now I can drive one.

Well this has been a long time coming. I am glad to be supporting Turbotech, I have know and driven with Jimmy since I started in '10. He has always been supportive and I wanted to give back. I am proud to be running the Prodigy chassis. I have watched this chassis do some amazing things and I wanted to step up to an axial based sporty. The fit and finish of the chassis is top notch. Like I said this has been a long time in the making. I started gathering parts at the end of last season and got a set of Creation Fab axles put together by Chris the Battery man for Crawllife. David was nice enough to part with them. So the first thing I did was of course was to tear them apart and drop in overdrive and underdrive mounted to the LOCKED UP RC spools, no slop. I love these things. I had Eddie over at Br00d drop a 30T LE arm that I had into a new can to give it some go. I had a spare sidewinder micro laying around so that went in the parts pile.

Here are some pics, enough talk.

Notch Eight made the tierod for it. I went with the suggestion of running the VP scale C-hubs, I like them so far.

A pile of parts

The tranz has the brass inserts in the bottom to provide strength and the tranz has the full RR treatment with VP grease. Had to run MIP also, that way I have one less thing to think about.

Ahh moving on to wheels
Won a great set of anodized Shift hubs from Lattice Innovations awhile back, great addition to the build. I contacted Crawler Innovations and ordered up a set of

After seeing them on Rowdy's rigs out at Battle Grounds. I had a great time out there. If you have never gone you should."thumbsup"

I figured with the wheels I need some kind of weigh up front so I got some

and the tuning kit for the Wraith knuckles I am running. I did have to take some of the powder coating off to get them to fit well. Not a big deal, sanding drum on a dremmel and a couple of min.

I got some narrowed up SILVER and BLUE VOODOO and CI comp cut foams to mount up to the shifts and 6Bolts

Crawl Life was nice enough to give me a body that he was going to get rid of. I am not one to turn down things I can use. Test fitted the body with the Gunnar mounts.

Now I am no painter by any stretch of the imagination. Rattle Can for me. When I went looking through the little bit of paint I have I could only find White and silver. Oh well it is just going to be a practice body. David is painting one up for me for the Northeast National Qualifier. Can't wait to see it.

Got out of work today at 11:00 today and got to drive it until 3:00. I am very impressed, I have some basic tuning to do, like a pinion change and adding some weight here and there. Side hilling and climbing it was a beast! I have to get use to bumping the throttle, but that will come with wheel time. I have to get more in before the NENQ at the end of the month. I trimmed some of the pins off the silvers in the front but not the full pattern that I have been running on the PRO. Thanks Jimmy for putting out such a great sportsman chassis."thumbsup"

Awesome John! I'm glad your happy with it and I'm looking forward to trading set-up tips with you as you get some tuning time in. Gonna be a fun NENQ!

It really looks sharp J! Congrats on getting it done for the qualifier. I hope the lid I come up with will do justice to the killer parts you used in this build!

Very nice rig!

I am curious how much you removed from the Voodoos.
Where can I get some?
I am looking at that exact wheel / foam / tire combo for my sporty.
Those tires look perfect!
Silver front & blue rear what were your foams?

Sorry for all the questions.
What are those preload collars on your scx10 shocks?

AddictedtoRC1 06-18-2014 04:34 PM

Looking good John. Glad to see it under power and on the rocks.

No problem at all. I had a club member narrow them for me. i just sent him a message to see how much he took out. When I find out I'll let you know. I like the combo of silver and blue for what we crawl on. Check out http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/tires...oo-review.html There is some good info in there. I usually run gold and blue in my pro rig. The foam setup is CI 6in comp cut closed cell inners in the front and rear. the fronts I put soft outer with a medium tuning ring around them. In the rear I have medium outer with a soft tuning ring I trimmed all the tuning rings to the width of the tread. The SCX10 preload collars are from Notch Eight Designz, he is a vendor here and an EPARCCrawlers club member. He also made the tierod for me. The preload collars come in two different lengths and you can get them dyed different colors, you will need to contact him to get details. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/chass...d-collars.html

Here are the longer collars and you can see the pin cut I like also.

Here's a pic of what was taken out of the Voodoos when they were narrowed.

Heading out for some more wheel time. In the past I have made the mistake of changing too any things at a time. First change is to add a little more weight up front. After that I think I will finish cutting the pin pattern. Stay tuned.

Got some wheel time in yesterday before it started to rain.

Rear cut

Looking good, still have to get some longer hardware for the rear lowers and shocks to outboard them.

It is a crime to cut up this body, so I am going to let David do it up at the NENQ.

Ok finally my first day of vacation where I don't have to think about the running of the NENQ. I still have several follow up calls to make to sponsors. I am out the door to get some wheel time on the Prodigy at my local spot St. Peters."thumbsup"
