Default sportsman questions??

I started this thread to post all the questions I have about building a shafty. I have posted a few other question in different threads, but as soon as that question gets answered I end up having a new one so instead of having all these threads with one or two questions I am just posting them all here.

I am starting to think about a new build and I am leaning towards a sportsman. I have a 2.2 that I have just finished and a super that I finished a little bit ago. Building them is just about as much fun as running them. And I'm not to big into scale building so a sportsman is my next adventure.

1: Who all makes a chassis for this setup?
This was answered but brought about a new question.
Is the design of the chassis a tried and true setup? Because they all look very similar.

2: What gearing is ran in the front and rear axles?
Answered, but what gearing is over drive and what gearing is under drive?

3: What drive shafts are being ran?

4: How do you determine, the angle to set the axles at so that the drive shafts don't bind?

5: Is it better to run a brushed or brushless motor?
You can get some really powerful brushed and brushless motors. Since only running a single motor which way would be better.

Stock axial SCX10/AX10 gears are 38/13
Overdrive axial gears are 43/13
Underdrive...36/14

1. It's pretty tried and true.. Geo is geo.. Only so much change can be done.

2. Answered..

3. MIPS... Atleast in the front.. A modded wb8 can be ran as well. I run MIP front and a wb8 on the rear of my 2. Modded is inserting a rod, tube, or body post, into the male end. It keeps it from twisting an breaking.

4. I like the front axle output level with the ground. The rear clocked back so the drive shaft is above it rear lower links..

5. Brushed.. Unless ur building a LCC.. Lol..

chassis among my favorite are:
Sudu by NCD
Suckerpunch by 5th D
Prodigy by Turbofest/Sniper

Others:
Bulldog by CCC
Many others too, I just don't know them all.

I like the Sudu and Prodigy because they are so strong and reinforced. Prodidy has more adjustment than anything I can think of.

I'm a big CCC fan, but I don't really like his sporty chassis because it is small and frail by comparison, but Winner seems to be cleaning up with his.

I would recommend seeing if Travis at 5th D will get you a Suckerpunch for $80 like he had them on sale a ways back... might not be possible though.

I'm really happy with my Prodigy right now, but that is only after the build, as I don't have much wheel time in with that rig yet.

g10 is a cost effective option to the cf material also. That is what both of my sporty's are made from.

The SuckerPunch is an awesome chassis as is the others. Most current chassis' will have similar geometry so it will basically come down to price and which one you like the looks of best. Keep the front driveshaft somewhat level with the ground (tilted up a hair is ok) and clock the rear up a bit more for clearance. Mip's are nice and strong driveshafts but Ive also had good luck with Losi CC shafts. Brushed motors in the 30-35T are the most popular. Check out the builds in here and see what you like, its a lot easier to copy someones if its your first sporty build.

Can you see the catch 22 here?

A great chassis wont be a benefit you unless its set up just right. If you cant drive/practice regularly and work all the bugs out of it, It will fail in comparison to the other tweaked shaftys being run already I run my own design chassis with an xr10 bottom and it works well. In fact it can and will beat out some of thoes "fancy priced" chassis. I keep getting into the finals with it so i am not changing it any time soon.

I love Barry because he is as cocky as I am ... Dude can drive ... I personally run a prodigy and love the thing .. But I also love the boxer ... From CCC ... " gratuitous plug" ... It really depends on what you can get your hands on ... And TROY IS A BITCH !!!!!
