Okay, since I have to this date posted zero proper pics of the rig out on the rocks, I thought it was time to do so. Nothing spectacular, just a good, proper pic in it's natural habitat.

"Rear has Creation Fab Delrin tubes, Vanquish locker, UD gears, RC4WD WK axle shafts, and Vanquish lockouts (also hopefully in the mail today). Was able to go ahead and put the upper link mount on as well."

Specifically which RC4WD axle shafts did you end up using to get the extra width?

Sorry, it's been way too long to remember. All I know is they were made for the HPI Wheely King, they were heavy duty, and they were discontinued 2+ years ago. I was able to grab a couple sets back before they all vanished and still had one on the shelf.

Time for a little update... this rig has been absolutely amazing for me so far. I won our club's season opener last month by completing the day with only 2 reverses. Today was our 2nd comp of the season and I won again, this time with only 3 reverses for the day. Our 2nd course today had a very steep downhill going into a right-angle gate right on the edge of a drop-off. I was the only driver to successfully navigate this gate. While everyone else tumbled off and had to take a reposition, the Nightmare S just settled into it and made it look easy. Needless to say, I am VERY happy with how this rig is performing! Don has definitely outdone himself with the design of this chassis, and I cannot recommend it enough. If you don't already have a Nightmare S, maybe it's time you did!

Had our 3rd comp of the season yesterday, and the rig again performed flawlessly. Had 2 reverses for the day and took my 3rd win. I continue to be amazed at how well the Nightmare S chassis performs. Finally got a few shots of the rig in action, although my son was having trouble with the stupid delay on my phone and missed most of the good shots. Anyway, here are a few pics from yesterday's comp:

Gate 7 on the 1st course. It was steeper than the pic makes it appear, and the Nightmare S was the only rig to make it up.

Bonus gate:

Just a cool pic midway through the 2nd course:

Had a nice package from Don waiting for me when I got home today; a new set of lighter-weight Mod-Lock wheels made from my material of choice, G10. I know a lot of the cool kids are using glue-on wheels these days to save a few extra grams, but I'm a little bit old-school and I still like my bead-locks. These things are super sweet, can't wait to get them mounted up. Thanks Don!

Sexy Time!
I need to do a rebuild / regrease on mine for Worlds. Had a little carnage at our last comp of the season.

Yep, Don did a nice job on them. I requested G10 and lighter weight and this is what he came up with. I love the design and they saved about 2.5 ounces over my old wheels. I have blue outer screws on the way to really set them off right.

Ouch! So far the only "carnage" I've had is a loose setscrew on the front driveshaft. Fortunately, it was noticed right out of the start gate, so I got to fix it before progressing. It still had plenty of blue locktite on it, so I re-juiced both shafts with red when I got home.

They look even better on the rig.

Sweet looking rig.

I'm with you on the beadlocks, I use glue on wheels and it's lame when you don't have the tires / foams just right.

Lightweight beadlocks would be nice to have.

I can remember when we would stick 1/2 pound of lead on each front wheel, so a few extra grams really don't matter to me when it comes to the convenience of being able to experiment/tune my foams. Not saying I won't run glue-on rims, I just don't have a reason to right now.

Got the purty blue screws installed, and just by doing the outer ones I saved 8.4 grams. If I weren't such a tightwad I'd spring for some more to do the inner rings. I've looked high and low trying to find 4-40 x 1/2" or a bit longer in blue anodized to replace the hub screws, but the closest I can come up with is 7/16" long. Anyone know where I can find some 1/2" ones?

Nice work papbash it was a tidy build and it looks terrific. Don's design and attention to clean detail as always makes for a great package.

Agreed, and the Nightmare S has to be his best yet.

Why not just tap the hubs to 3mm?

I was just trying to keep all my hubs with the same hardware, but after coming up empty on the blue 4-40 screws, I got the tap out and have more 3mm screws on the way. That's the beauty of the shifts; I can run whichever screws I want now.
