Know what you mean, I'm building a new set of scaler axles and have been looking everywhere for some XR shafts. Looks like early Feb according to most sites I checked.
Be sure to do a build thread on your Nightmare S and show us what you come up with.

I REALLY like this build. Pardon the rookie question, are you using XR10 Axle Case or AX10? I'm slowly putting together my build list and like how your ended up. Thinking between this chassis and the sudu

Thanks, glad you like it. I'm using the AX10 axle housings with the XR mod done to them, t's a real easy mod to do.
Good luck with your decision; I know which chassis I'd choose, but I may be a little bit biased.

I'm leaning towards this chassis. If I don't have any axles yet, would you recommend I just go with the xr10 axle case off the bat?

This is made for the ax10 axles . I couldn't tell you if it would fit xr10 axles . I would think no mudman

Thank you. I was mixing up some things, but I understand it better now.

Looking into beef tubes, I see there are wide splined, but no wides for un-splined. If I understand correctly, the rears don't need to be splined. But looking at the vanquish lockouts, they look splined.

So would it be ideal to run both splined beef tubes if I wanted it wide?

Sorry for the noob questions. A lot of little things have changed since I sold my old crawler several years ago.

No, the XR10 cases are for MOA (motor on axle) and would not work. We do the XR mod to our AX10 axles to give us the greatly improved steering that the XR10 axles have. Here is a thread that will help you with the process (it was started a few years ago and current vendor offerings are listed in later pages):
XR10 Mod for AX10 Axles Parts List

And a few more:
http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/searc...archid=9713646

It really is a very easy process. I have used CreationFab tubes, RCBros tubes, and Beef tubes, and they are all good products. Seems like there may be one more out there as well...

I always just use splined on both to keep it simple.

No apologies needed, things change pretty fast in this hobby.

I REALLY appreciate it papbash! Glad I read a few threads, because I just about bought a whole new ax10 kit last night because it was cheap. Then realized "wait a minute, my last crawler had almost no stock parts."

This will be a slow build, but mines may be quite close to yours. Plus I want the X Maxx, saving my pennies for that as well. My only jump start to the build is I already have a trans.

Found an old Losi XXCR Kinwald edition buggy roller too. probably not worth putting it back together, but cool nonethless.

No, no, no.... you need to get your priorities straight! Build the Nightmare S first, then worry about all those "toy" rigs!
