Last night's progress - got the axles together. Nothing cutting edge, just nice and strong:

Front is modded XR10 width with Creation Fab Delrin tubes, XR10 unis, Vanquish locker, OD gears, and Vanquish Cs and knuckles (hopefully in the mail today):

Rear has Creation Fab Delrin tubes, Vanquish locker, UD gears, RC4WD WK axle shafts, and Vanquish lockouts (also hopefully in the mail today). Was able to go ahead and put the upper link mount on as well.

Also got the links assembled. Used some of DLUX's Delrin link sliders on the bottom links, really like these things.

Got another package from Don yesterday; a set of 3D-printed wheels that, as I understand it, are prototypes for some injection molded wheels. These things are beautiful!

I've seen WK axle shafts used before but never asked - why over axial?
I'm Neeeew, learn me something.

Two reasons: First, they are longer so with the Delrin tubes on the rear, the width approximates that of the XR-modded front.
Secondly, they are much stronger than the stock Axials. I've bent a few Axial shafts, but so far the WK shafts have held up to my abuse. I consider them the poor man's alternative to Ti shafts.

Those were an early proto-set of plastic hub-mounted wheels that I made up in July of 2013 with the intention of providing an injection molded plastic, hub mounted, glue on wheel to the crawler world. Only a handful of people even knew I had the thought to do so back then, and it's not really been talked about much beyond that until recently.

So WK axles are longer, makes sense.
I've yet to break a shaft on brushed power, and I'm damn hard on my axles.

I'll have to look up the length vs stock and compare scx10 lock outs to wraith.... the idears are turning.

The idea of the wider axle has several benefits.. Longer axles provide proper spacing .. You can utilize shorter hubs and have less of a chance to bend a stub if you get bound up .. I'm sure there's several more but this isn't my thread lol

Well, my Vanquish parts didn't show today, so I worked on my shocks instead. The Nightmare S is designed around 3.5" shocks, which allows me to use the shocks off of my old sporty. These are Traxxas 2660 Big Bores with Integy MSR11 caps and JeepinDoug spring cups along with Losi Mini T springs. I had the red springs on the front with the blues in the rear. No idea what spring combination I'll end up with on this chassis, but it's as good a starting point as any I guess. I always start out with 30 weight oil, and adjust from there if necessary. After a quick rebuild, they are ready to go:

Not at all, I enjoyed the conversation.
I'm pretty much at a standstill now till the rest of my parts come in.

Your just full of ideas here. I'm going to have to look into those shock caps, they look way better then doing the cap mod.
Although I think your shock bodies could use some lathe time.
