In case you missed it, here is the link announcing BW's newest 2.2 Shafty chassis, the Nightmare S. This little gem is beautiful, and shows Don's usual top-notch quality and design. This is going to be a fun build!

Yeah! What exactly is going on with that axle plate?? Can you mount the servo way over on one side and run a larger battery??

It's a low COG design, that mounts over the axle case's mounting posts. The center section is slightly raised and the battery mounts on one side with the servo on the other. The lower part of the "T" is an electronics mounting plate. I took several pictures just now, and they are uploading to Photobucket as I type. I have to go to work now, but will get them posted up when I get home tonight. "thumbsup"

Here are a couple of picture with batteries sitting on the plate. The servo already sits all the way to one side of the plate, but the raised section in the middle could limit the size batteries you run. For my needs, the size is a perfect fit for the 500mah batteries I run in competition. This picture shows one of my 500mah's in position:

If you're just bent on running a larger battery, it can be done. A larger lipo will fit if you're willing to place it at an angle, like on an XR10 axle. This picture shows a 1,000mah battery sitting on the plate to show what I mean:

Hope this helps...

Very cool design, I like that it ties in to the 2 bolts over at each end, kinda might stiffen or reinforce the whole axle! It looks to be the right length for regular scx axles, I wonder how big a pack I can get in there with widened axles? I'd love to fit my 2200s on an axle for long trails...

My axles are modded to be XR width, but I'm waiting on new cases at the moment so I can mount the new plate. All my axle cases have had the mounting posts cut down to lower the COG. This new design eliminates the need to do that. Once I get my new cases in and assembled, I'll post up more pics so you can see how much clearance there is.

Ummmm, this is a competition chassis for the 2.2 Shafty comp class, not a scale chassis. It is not legal for scale comps, so I guess I'm confused as to why you would want to run it on trails?

More pics of the battery/servo plate, here's the top:

And the bottom:

As you can see in the pictures, the main parts of the plate are G10 fiberglass, with the electronics plate being made from Delrin that has been pocket-milled to reduce weight.

Here's a front view showing the middle section that screws to the axle mounting posts, allowing the remainder of the plate to sit nice and low:

These are the rear link mounts that I received with the chassis:

I'm not sure how the marketed version will come, but it's nice to have a couple of options to try out. My plan is to start with this one:

Very minimalist and light-weight, but plenty strong being made of G10. "thumbsup"

I'm trying to build a car capable enough for comps, that I could also throw a huge battery in and go for long walks through the canyons with. I'll be in AZ for the winter, there is this place about 20 minutes away, huge, flowing magma formations for dozens of miles in every direction! It's incredible! The rock has the texture of sandpaper! I burn through those little batteries in 15 minutes, I want to go on all day adventures but my scx was not as capable as the comp rig, so I'm looking for a plate I can use for comps with the little battery, plus also throw the big one on for longer days. Plus, I have 5 almost new 3s 2200s laying around since I sold my quad...
I'm enjoying the fastback chassis I have, but I'm thinking about a whole new chassis, perhaps...
Just to add further confusion, I'd like to put a bug body on it, so it won't look so silly if I go scaling or trailing with others. I'm trying to have one chassis where I can throw on the voodoos and comp, then put some swampers, a body, and a large battery and go on a hike. I'm tired of buying parts for 2 (or more) cars, lol...

Got a tiny bit done before heading off to work this morning; transmission assembled with all Robinson innards, aluminum spacers, and one of Don's purty motor plates.
