Has anyone tried these? Event the pinion and spur teeth are cut at an angle.

Nope, haven't seen those yet.
Helical gears are supposed to be stronger...who makes 'em?

So from the thread EP showed. One guy bought them and liked them. Others don't like them, but never used them. I bought a set and will try as soon as I break something.

The advantage of helical gears:
- slightly more contact area so in theory stronger
- They engage more gradually so run quieter / smoother
- load is theoretically more distributed over gear teeth

The disadvantage:
- sliding friction in meshing teeth thus slightly less efficient in power transfer
- thrust along the axis of the gear -> more pressure on the bearings

Most important though is the material. Helical gears made of weak material will suck just as normal gears of weak material will suck.
So basically I'm interested in what these gears are made of.
I'd love to give helical gears a try if they're made of hardened steel. If they're made of China butter, I'd rather not ;)

Pygmy you got me curious. I scraped one of the gears with a stainless scale. I am leaning toward the China butter. Curled off a chip with the rule. Harder than aluminum, but no where like the old bully gears.
