Thanks for the bump of motivation PURP! Prepping for axles.. Universal mod for smooth operation at even the most usable steering angles. First thing.. Clamp the bottom ear in the vise so the two side ears rest on top. Your going to be driving the skinny pin out. Then grab your choice of punch.. Once the skinny pin is out, the rest just comes apart. You can see where the inside of the ears touch. With a little dremel work to the inside, it doesn't take much.. (I just like the look of the way I do et.) You then move to the outside of the ears. Just knock the edges down, it will be plenty.. You put it all back together.. (No, I've never had one break with the amount I take out) with the exception of 1, that came out of the bad run, from axial)) When putting the little pin back in. Make sure it's centered and getting full bite, on both sides.. Now the worry of binding and breaking a uni, due to "too much" steering angle, is gone.. This isn't Max, but plenty to work with.. Camera really doesn't pick up the angle all that well.. If your not comfortable doing this yourself: Dlux sells them premod'd, for a great price! Last edited by winnerone23; 11-13-2015 at 11:09 AM. |

On to the axles... And parts... HH Crawlmaster spools.. 10g a piece! OD an UD gears.. And axle parts.. I have always ran delrin tubes and finally twisted one out of the front housing. In all fairness, the tire caught the tie rod nut, under throttle during a roll over attempt, pushed up against a rock. Add the fact that I only run set screw's to hold them in, its not all that bad. It saved the doodoo sidewall on my do-over's! (And it was while messing around After I finished a course at ECC).. Anywho.. I had a chance to pick up some uber tubes from my boy Josh. I really like the clean look of the rear tube, that deletes the lockout. But it's aluminum and 10g heavier, per side! So I got the drill out! I got them down to 4g heavier.. Rear going together.. I added some longer link ends to the rear shocks.. For the final touch, the BmachineRC rear mount.. Rear done.. Front axle.. I left the tubes alone.. No problem with a few extra grams.. One bolted together, I added a CustomFiber desTroy plate.. Which had my screen name milled into it. (Which can be done for anybody, at request) Front done.. Thanks Fish.. I kind of missed some front axle stuff, pertaining to the desTroy plate.. They come with a thick and thin spacer.. The thick spacer is for a bolt on application.. The thin one takes some dremel work... It's 2mm, if you really want it.. ;) Just on the back half housing case, it needs taken down from your XR tube to the pumpkin, on the level.. I haven't tried other servos. Just a 7950 and a Protek 170-t.. Both fit the same.. I'll check a HH servo, when I switch my son's over. Tolerance's are tight.. And I also use the offset link ends on my front shocks, to make sure the spring is cleared.. |

I installed my Holmes Hobbies Servo and it fits perfectly I grinded a bit. I put one spacer under the Servo and one under the plate.

| Re: I always wanted a EVO.. Thanks for the info! No sir.. You'll be good without it. IMO.. My first design didn't even have the CF wrap around the servo. It only came out to the support screw, in front of the servo.. So the tire side of the servo, only had the 2 screw's that went in the spacer.. Ran that for a year, till I took it off for me new one. |
