Default Redemption: The comp-ish style 5thD build

So while i was boxing everything up i realized i had everything i needed to make the last build work. Sadly i was blinded by frustration and stress and just stayed with selling it.

The day after i mailed it out i regretted it just like everybody said i would. So now I am going to do it all over again and listen to the people that actually have this same setup working (atleast until mine works ) and then fiddle with it all from there.

Lots of people sent me free stuff for my other build and i felt like a jerk when i threw in the towel, so none of that this time. If you really want to help me out just give me a good deal and a kind word.

I still have the axles and the links and the stupid king shocks. Trying to trade the king shocks for scx icon shocks. Im ordering another sp from 5th D of course..... hopefully something unique

So here we go again....

Glad to hear your going to stick with it this time... It's well worth the time and frustration to get to run these trucks... It's just a part of the hobby that everyone's gotta deal with but its what makes it so much more fun when it's running and you get that big grin on your face Looking forward to seeing how the truck turns out this time

Glad to see you get back in the saddle!!! You'll have a lot more knowledge going into this build and guarantee it will be a much smoother build! The people on this forum are great with helping out. I've learned so much from studying other people's builds and asking questions. Good luck...

Let me look in my boxes. I may have some Icon shock bodies (at the very least) that i"m not using. I can get ya a good price on them.

im thinking about getting some wheels that use slw hubs. I have never used hubs, always hexes and i see they come in varying thicknesses and have no idea what size i should get. Im looking at 2.2 vp method wheels to go on my ar60 axles.

Depends on the wheel offset. Most of the guys are using CF wheels where the outer face is almost at the outside of the tire to keep from being too wide.

Best idea is maybe get onto Lattice Innovations and his Shift Hubs. They come with various thicknesses of spacers so you can find your desired width on a trial and error basis.

I'll guess 225 for the rear and 350 for the front, flat face wheels will keep the width of the car to around 11" wide.

I would definitely go the Shift hub route. $40 for a complete set and you'll be able to adjust your offset any way you want! You can also buy extra spacers pretty cheap but they come with enough so you probably won't even have to worry about it.......

You can laugh but I just got some 6 bolt ci wheels and I like them, however they are glue on wheels. Very light and they use hubs

Boy.. I wish your ar60's would of sold! ;)

Ax-xr axles.. FTW!

Ummm.. VP Method's are Scale wheels!!!! (This is a crawler) ;)

Lattice Innovations, Shift hubs!! Get the "slims".. If they don't come with enough spacers.. I have enough, from my 10 sets of them, to never get another set of spacers!

I might have icon's as well.. But see what Curt has going on..

ok, shift hubs it is. Didnt even see those when i was looking around

I watched harleys video again on the slw hubs and i really dont understand how they are better than just using the hexes since the hexes are just underneath the hubs.

I knew somebody would say something about "scale" wheels, but read the title this time... it says "comp-ish"

I couldnt find any icon shocks at first and now they are popping up all over. Trying really hard to trade off these king shocks for a set but havent been able to nail anything down. Had a few sets offered to me to buy but im trying to pinch my pennies for the chassis haha.

I totally agree with Troy on the axle types. Not that it'll make any difference now since you kept the AR-60's, but the SCX10 axles with the XR mod are so much easier to build a truck with.

Way less headache to get things setup. Waaaay less.

didnt expect to start getting backlash for the all might ar60, i thought the whole community was in love with these things.

Axles are staying, im glad they didn't sell because i have to much invested in them anyway.

Edit: Just saw they make rockwell style axles for rc trucks...... maybe i will switch out my axles (im not)

Most of the wheels you're going to get won't have the mount to go onto the hexes and if they did they most likely wouldn't be the right width... Which is why you use hubs to get the right width that you want the truck to be...

No backlash, as you call it. I've built with both and only mentioned the alternative for those looking to start a build.

I will also post that info up in my thread once I've done a complete comparison.

Definitely not trying to stir the pot at all.

My pot remains unstirred good sir

There are advantages to both, I like the low servo mount better on the AR axles and the adjustability in upper link placement, not to mention you don't need to cut and fab housings to run uni's. Downside is the wider link mounts (I guess) and guys not used to the offset pumpkins. Im also in favor of the removable gear cover and one piece housing. Maybe SSD will come out with a new and improved XR width housing, then I may retry the centered diffs with some better adjustable upper link mounts.

Is there a limit to with in sportsmen class? I know too wide can get you caught up. Also who makes shift hubs?
