Margouillat

Hi!

Here my new shafty "thumbsup"

http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/114575IMG4612.jpg

It's a Margouillat
 the last world championship winner

I've put my first crawler body (in memory ) but it's really tired and a new will arrive

http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/27...947220147o.jpg

Chassis is 2.5mm CF, with 3D printed gearbox/ skid combo, RC4WD gears and reinforced bearing balls.
Upper links are made with CF 4mm rods
Lower links are Ti grade 5 4mm
with traxxas rodends "thumbsup"

http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/303562IMG4629.jpg

SDI transmission shafts to link gearbox and axles: really thin and light, they're perfect for the margouillat "thumbsup"

17T 32Dp is required so I've milled one in delrin, excellent for this app (Cf delrin datasheet ;) )

http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/15...486514769o.jpg

http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/725996IMG4464.jpg

I've choose to mount my favorite axle: SCX housing+ beef tubs+ XR10 shafts on front
I milled 3mm CF plate to support servo, lipo and uper links

http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/17...385062337o.jpg

http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/21...550441351o.jpg

Some VP knuckles are in project  and I'll mount bombproof margouillat steering kit

http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/47...ection4020.jpg

http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/51...ection4026.jpg

Ti 4mm steering link is mounted behind the axle to have a real ackerman effect

http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/125626IMG4618.jpg

The rear axle is 100% prototype, except the dif :ror:
I use hot racing UD
Ti 5mm grade 5 single shaft
ultra light spool
delrin bushings, housing and arms

http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/69...657167076o.jpg

Rather than mount a UD in the front, I played on the diameter of the wheels with the maximum authorized size (Losi rock claws on voodooo sides) for front and little boss claws on the rear.
I have to try it ;-)

Wheels are in polycarbonate, extra strong material, using PVC beadlocks (4g each), delrin hubs for the rear and alu for the front, with delrin spacers

I use axial shock with Losi springs, TGS delrin spring cups (upper and lower)
http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/809187IMG4630.jpg

and you can see that it misses plate to close axle housing :lmao:
It will arrive

Electronic parts to drive the machine
HH Br mini
CC BEC
Hitec 8385TH
integy 45T Arghh! (waiting puller 400 16T  )

Re: Margouillat

Hello. Amazing project!!! Let ask you one question.....why your left rear link is upper than the right rear link?
Thank you!!

Hello :D

Thank you "thumbsup"
This is to contra torque twist.
Toto Rax has experienced and find it's better.
I haven't ride yet and setup is "free" :ror:

SCXR10/AR44 margo

Hi!
After a long breack, I'm back with lot of news on my margo
All the pieces come out of my workshop

SDI steel transmission shafts are replaced by Ti-6Al-4V (all Ti I'm using has this grade)

https://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/128090IMG9932.jpg

I rebuilt the front deck for a lightweigt deck, milled in 3mm CF for the central part and 2mm for electronic support

https://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/476553IMG9957.jpg

https://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/662532IMG9939.jpg

The shocks supports are milled in aluminium

https://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/608971IMG9959.jpg

https://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/575055IMG9958.jpg

Supports are lower as possible to put the servo and lipo in 500mAh will take place at the opposite side to equilibrate the axle

The main changement is the rear axle
I take an axial AR44 housing which I grinded : links supports, edges. It just remains "the housing"
I drill the sides to put 3K CF tube 10x12mm
I cut a CF dif cober to be full CF
23° aluminium supports are screwed on tubes on steel rings inside (aluminium is not enough strong to support the thread)
The driveshaft is a single 5mm Ti shaft, mounted on an aluminium spool, with circlips to retain bearing balls on the end of the tubes.
Shims before the hubs's pins put them in place.
the upper links mount is milled in 3mm CF and 6mm delrin to screws the rodends on it

https://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/500916IMG9900.jpg

https://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/863208IMG9901.jpg

https://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/923841IMG9903.jpg

To mount the spool, I built aluminium lockers

https://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/364206IMG9960.jpg

They are used to screw the upper links support, too

https://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/843302IMG9902.jpg

Using the SCXR10 on front, I had to return the AR44, but it's a good stuff, because like that, the diff pinion "unscrews" the main gear and stays stucked on the housing and doesn't lock on the spool
I put a shim on the outside shaft to be sure that stays unlocked in backwards

Weight holders milled in aluminium, with plumb weights (it's easier to find and mold "thumbsup") they have the same weight than tungsten slugs.

https://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/441226IMG9931.jpg

the mold

https://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/550774IMG9934.jpg

I mill some 7075 alu pinions to replace the RC4WD.
11g (with Ti 5mm output shaft) versus 30g. My COG is really happy about this new

https://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/123628IMG9914.jpg

I build Dlux style knuckles with 3mm CF and big aluminium block, supporting tungsten weights
I precise they are not a copy, I took quotes and draw them myself (and I build them only for me ;-) )

https://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/485653IMG8236.jpg

https://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/578964IMG8235.jpg

https://img4.hostingpics.net/pics/362267IMG8237.jpg

And to finish, I made my own lexan body
Some CAD, foam milling with plaster master
and the lexan forming machine

https://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/798605IMG9935.jpg

It is designed not to be pretty, but to be in rules limits and do easier the roll overs

https://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/946103IMG8801.jpg

https://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/601227IMG8805.jpg

Re: Margouillat

This build is insane! Over the top, from scratch building at its finest.

How many hours do you estimate you have into your knuckles? Do you use "balls" inside flanged ball bearings in place of conventional kingpin bushing like the DLUX versions? Or have you found a way to improve upon the design in some way? I ask because my only irk about my DLUX knuckles is that I don't like how the bearing must pivot on the ball as the knuckle is steered if using the 8* kingpin inclination. It seems that possibly, theoretically, maybe the inner ball could wear down with much use? Or maybe I'm over thinking it. Either way, great job and keep us updated on your progression.

What's your rtr weight down to now?.

Re: Margouillat

I'm really cool with my tools.
Therefore, I prefer take the time and save the machine instead of to go fast and break all "thumbsup"
To mill aluminium parts, it takes 1h15, you add a passage on the lathe machine to do the bearing balls's places on the interior side (for me, it's easier than return the part on the CNC).
Around 15 minutes to mill CF parts. And I don't know how much time to drill and to thread the alu pieces to screw the CF parts on them.

I use traxxas rod ends on which I cut a side

https://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/513673IMG9961.jpg

And at last , I turned delrin flanged bushings with a height of 3.5mm: 3mm inside the CF and 0.5 for the flange

https://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/144119IMG9963.jpg

https://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/620316IMG9962.jpg

The weight is 1950g with 500mAh lipo and weights.
All screws are stainless (alu could save lot of grams but they're not the best to mount and unmount day after day)
Perhaps, one day I'll put alu or ti screws, when I will be sure to stop to unmount it.

it's hard enough to hold on the ground :mrgreen:

Hi!
Sunday was too cold to run.
But today, temperatures are more clement and I could do some runs and this video

Re: Margouillat

Hi!
Yes, it is

After the axial AR44 axle, the SSD diamond AR44 portal axle

Built around a single ti shaft with delrin spool, 23° alu shocks/lower links screwed on internal steel rings.
Portal parts are built with alu and CF 3mm
I milled 32p gears in 7075.

https://photos.app.goo.gl/7iE9DePf8v2Qx2Kz6

https://photos.app.goo.gl/oQW4qW1c2GJw1rx29

https://photos.app.goo.gl/AwdFQfdaSaYavFBH9

I did a first test on my favorite spot and it's amazing!
The rear follows without hang on the rocks, grabs the edges and the margo stucks like a mussel

This configuration gives 0 torque twist ( front and rear work in counter-direction)

Re: Margouillat

That rear axle looks amazing. What kind of reduction do you have in the portal box if any. I just switched to a similar setup with a portal in the rear and standard axle in front. Have not ran it yet but I was looking for an under drive affect.

tgenial58 06-18-2018 12:12 AM

Re: Margouillat

at this moment, 1/1 ratio because I'm using AR60 dif on front.
And I'm building 0.75 ratio to use AR44 dif with cf tubes on front too.
