Shock sizing?

On my AX10 is the stock shocks which are 134mm. Now, I'd like to replace my shocks with new ones. Do I need to use 134mm for my crawler or can I use any size shocks? Also, what are some decent shocks that won't break the bank. Thanks 8)

If you go longer you will change the height on your rig.. shorter will have the opposite effect.

I built up an OG AX10 as a loaner for comp crawling and used Traxxas Big Bores at 4" (100mm) eye to eye and they worked great. They provided the ideal amount of articulation. I also used bent lower links for some additional clearance. 134mm is not ideal IMO.

The 4" (100mm) pin-to-pin Traxxas big bores are #4962 and as near as I can figure these are used stock on the T-Maxx and E-Maxx (that's why they come 8 in a package). Traxxas specs for these 2 vehicles identify them as XXL shocks.

I use these as replacements for the stock Wraith and AX10 (2nd gen) Axial shocks as they are the same pin-to-pin as the Axial shocks. The Traxxas Red springs on these shocks are too firm IMHO and I've used Losi Black and Losi Gold springs as replacements. Unfortunately the Losi Black are no longer available and they were the softest. Will have to use the Gold (LOSA5144) in the future.

Looking at the Axial manual for the the AX10 Scorpion, the 134mm length identified is outside to outside, not pin-to-pin of the shock. What is the actual extended pin-to-pin measurement on these shocks? Won't be 100mm but will be a shorter length and may open up some additional alternatives. The rod ends on the Traxxas 4962 shocks are fairly short and some extra length could be had by using longer rod ends (RC4WD Z-S0403, for example). Won't make the shock as long as the stock shocks but might be close enough to work.

Thx for your answer, that helps.
I will meassure eye to eye of my shocks if I'm back Home, think it is 128mm eye to eye.
