Default RootBreaker's Axial AX10 Scorpion RTR

Ok so I had a post that was more of questions in the basic stickies and the sort...

so I will post pics later but u know what it looks like.. so I still have a few q's not listed in the stickies... as they seem as questions.. and yes im going to DL the manual as it will show things and maybe point some things out....

so I traded my red dynomite bb tmaxx for this thing.. now this thing is well worn... the axial has parts that are going to need to be replaced..

so i took it out today and was not impressed at all.. it disappointed me in many ways and that is ok.. a different strategy from what im used too... crawling is different than bashing I know that...

Parts
Tires/suspension/frame - stock
Motor - Komodo Spec 19 motor
Spur - 87 Tooth
Pinion - 20 tooth

so alas why I wasnt impressed with its crawling ability.. i couldnt get the tires to turn AT ALL....

so I know it is recommended to get a 55T motor.. so 19T definitely is not for crawling huh...

and 20/87 either...

so understanding that I will search out for a motor/spur/pinion....

now what i was not impressed with..
turning radius was PATHETIC!!!! I will do a video tomorrow to show you...

now when i turned right and hit the gas the suspension flexed and the rear right tire was in the air...

turning left it took about a 20' radius to turn...

so i have those issues to work out...

so this thread is more for what i got and my first thoughts... gonna read more and see what others are putting in for motors/stuff

Thanks all!!!!!

also some serious axle wrap.... about 1/2" play front and back... im wondering if that is bad...
going to go to a local hobby shop and see what he thinks...

i usually am a guy that likes buying new.. cuz then you know what you have with a warranty... however CL is starting to make me see the light..
i dont mind my trade as i wasnt using my tmaxx but now im seeing all the issues...

front and back links mounts worn creating axle wrap
intermittently driving... found out motor wires had cold solder joints... one broke right off... so i soldered it up... but seem to still have a intermittent issue.. have to fineggle it to get into reverse.... you hear it beep (power on) now and then and seems like there is 1 more loose wire... ill have to find it...

gonna be away friday-monday so nothing going to get done....
figure... 35T motor, fix links and find loose wire

AxialScorpionRTR (3 of 7) by TeleFragger / RootBreaker, on Flickr

Axial's 4 link plate installed.. and custom all thread links and revo ends covered in brake line (cool green.. i know it wont last!!!!!!!!)

will inboard the bottom links later.. didnt have time... both kids had hockey tonight..

AxialScorpionRTR (5 of 7) by TeleFragger / RootBreaker, on Flickr

i thought this front plate was battery and servo.. but it is just servo... ill drill it and make it into a batt and servo carbon plate later... had enough time to get the 4 link servo plate in and going...

AxialScorpionRTR (6 of 7) by TeleFragger / RootBreaker, on Flickr

it will flex more than this... i just threw this together to get it posted....

AxialScorpionRTR (7 of 7) by TeleFragger / RootBreaker, on Flickr

ok so you only learn by trying...

i know ... crawlers means getting weight down low...
so i made an attempt... it didnt go well..

i took a radio shack diy box... first bought a 3x2.1 and the big arse ae-2 wouldnt fit... so got the 4x2x1 and viola...
ground down the center screw points that allow you to bolt it down with...

then ground down the sides some and viola... ESC and RX (stockers) FIT!!!! WOOOOT...

however... it also fits where i put it.. but i loose so much flex... bigtime... when you inspect the front and twist it up.. you can see the 4 links move soooo close to the shocks... well with the box on the back.. you have little wiggle room so it doesnt flex well...

so i have to decide what to do.. i can move the bottom links in and shocks out.. giving me more room.. if i get enough it maybe good.. if not... then possibly turn the box on its side.. for 1" width vs current 2" to see if i have room for suspension flex..

but here is a looksy of how it is now...

i cut the power switch off and soldered/shrink tubed it...

ok had to go in the garage and work on it.. i put the shocks on the outside and the links in the inner.. and it is better.. but i really figured out the problem.. the trans shaft hits the box when flexed.. i have it that tight... i can either move the box back or grind down the tranny shaft.. it is a bit long.. dont need to stick out that far beyond the nut... hah...

what to do .. what to do.... either are easy to fix... ill most likely unbold the box and make the holes bigger to move it back some...

my original goal was to fit the box.. and the battery behind it.. however that wont happen.. the box to fit the battery is HUGE... 6x4x2 or so... so i figure ill find somewhere else for the battery... maybe ontop of this box.. while it isnt low.. it isnt that high.... not like stock.. im not on lipo yet.. so i need somewhere to deal with it so i can play till i save up for lipo then they go on the front axle....

what ya think???

minor bump.. nothing spectacular...

got my front links done...
and steering issue figured out.. i at times rub tires against the bottom links now....

no crawlin places near me.. but i have wood out front that needs to go into the trash..

Upper right-hand corner, behind the pens and markers, there's a pic of a greenish-blue car w/ recessed headlights. Nose looks a little stubby to be a Camaro, thought it might be a Grand Prix, Grand Am.

Dual F-bodies?!?!?!??! Ouch! American Family Insurance made dang sure I never got one, let alone a pair. Instead, I get to enjoy a pair of ex-rental Impalas ('00 & '08 ).

Anything else planned for the AX, or just runnin' it like it is for a while?

Learn to solder,

Become friends with someone who can solder,

Most hobby shops will do the swap for a nominal fee,

Go to creationfab's website and make arrangements to send in your ESC and BEC to have the connector swapped, and you can buy a BEC bypass adapter while you're there.

cut off your old ones.. solder on new ones and shrink tube... easy peasy

if u dont solder now.. get a nice soldering station and learn.. you will need to be able to solder.. yes you can get others to do it but then your on their mercy..

i use a el cheapo soldering iron and it sucks..

im going to get a soldering station.. so
1. wife doesnt complain about me using the small glass plates to solder on
2. adjustable heat... mine doesnt put out enough and the solder isnt flowing well...

if your asking me...
im not done..

only upgrades next on list is and in order
1. Castle BEC - ordering today
2. Lipo - can run 2s now but why.. going 3s after bec is in I need to get funds to get my charger then batteries and they will go up on front axle
3. AX10 Tuber cage
4. 35T better motor
5. rear steering setup - this truck was RTR so cheaper to put a front axle in i believe
6. 2 speed summit transmission (maybe but on the final part of my list as there isnt any crawling around here and i dont need speed as you will see below)

that is about it.. and thank goodness... cuz im also going to build a FOFF...
small, light and fast but with a hard body... 4s minimal

just wanted to bump this up..

i put a CC Bec in... and wow.. it was easy.. but i read about it earlier and read so many threads... i know where i was lost.. but then got thinking about the OLD rc days.. my black foot...
you had the 7.2v battery handle the ESC and a seperate 4-AA block to power the servo.. so my confusion was simple..

rx had 2 spots in use... only B open... then it hit me... duhhhh removing the red wire from the esc plug to the RX means you remove the power from esc to RX for servo... thus OLD SCHOOL!!!!! and plug the BEC in as a 4AA block!!!!

WOOOOOT!!!!

put it all together, ziptied up, soldered and powered it up... well i guess it is right.. truck drives.. and steers..

SO IM 3S BOUND!!!!!!!! NEED BATTERIES NOW and a charger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i did buy 1 of the 500mah 2s 30-40c batteries... i want to know what a 2s lipo runs like.. and see the difference of 3s... newbie visual learning curve...
