Default Stripped my servo horn... again...

So I've stripped 2 steering horns already and I'm only using the Hitec 645 servo. I had just replaced it last night and I went out to a cool crawling spot today. I crawled around for about 2 mins and the piece o' crap plastic stripped again. So I went into the LHS and they had a Losi aluminum one for my servo. I put it on and so far no problems, but I only messed around crawling a few things in the store because it started raing. It's a little bit shorter than the stock one, maybe and 1/8th of an inch or less. But it's not limiting the steering at all, it'll still hit the lower links if I don't limit it.

Anyways, here's some pics of it.

It specifically said on the package that I opened myself, "Hitec Servos". It fit's the splines perfectly with zero play.

Nice, I've been using alum horns for a while now. Never ever going back. With the lower end hitecs 645mg and the 5645mg the gears will strip after a while with the decreased impact resistance. In other words instead of the horn striping the gears will strip. However, you will get far more runs without repair, or at least I've noticed.

If you get the High end Hitecs 5955tg's the gear sets are unstripable. I've actually snapped the alum horn in half with no gear issues.

I have the 5645mg. When that goes, I'll get a 5955tg. My friend has one in his AX-10 and it's awesome. I prefer my overall setup more than his, but his steering is a lot better than mine.

The pic shows a 645, not 5645...

Why do all the crawlers like Hitec Servos anyhow?

Yeah, swapped servos because I accidently cut a wire while cutting off zip-ties. Need to fix the wires on the other one.

They are the Elite 1500Mah 2/3A cells. I bought them from Holmes Hobbies, with the 2/3A size battery bars, for $30 something with shipping. It keeps raining every time I try to measure the runtime, but I've got a solid 30 mins with no dumping so far. My buddy is using them on his and said he gets about 45 mins. His setup is identical to mine except he has a 55T and I have a 75T.

Yeah exactly, and changing gears is a bigger pain in the butt than changing a servo horn.

Drive more gently.

Why doesn't anybody use a servo saver? That would solve the gear stripping issues?

I use an extra heavy duty servo saver - am I doing the wrong thing?

Servo savers are wrong for crawlers, you dont want the steering to give when youre in a bind, you want it to turn. Servo savers belong on fast trucks, not crawlers.

Oh yeah? Get the idea in your head and try it. I had to learn it to finish comps without a touch and tool.

Mush. Servo savers are weaker than what is needed to hold a tire in position.
