Default AX10 shift kit or shifting from Low gear to High gear?

I used the search function in the axial forms and found nothing on a shift kit.

I have a radio that can handle that channel to tell it to shift, but what would be the best way to go about doing this?

I like to crawl in low gear on the rocks, and then put it in high gear and drive down the path to the next set of obstacles.

Any links would be appreciated as well.

You must have a one in a million Scorpion. They aren't two speeds.

the ax10 is a single speed trans. you could mod a high lift trans in it and have a three speed.

You could get the Rc4WD 2 speed R2.

Thanks for your help harley.
It is not www.rc4wd.com , it is http://www.rc4wdstore.com/

and I searched for R2, and came up with what you were talking about.

Here it is:
http://rc4wdstore.com/advanced_searc...rds=r2&x=0&y=0

Here are some reviews of the R2 transmission:
http://www.rccrawler.com/r2.htm
http://www.scale4x4rc.org/home/index...d=42&Itemid=38

I sent rc4wd some questions about it fitting in the ax-10. I will post those when I find out more.

Is this the only 2 speed selectable transmission out there?

What? The link is www.rc4wd.com still works fine.

You don't add that to the stock AX-10 trans you use it in place of the trans.

You have another option being the Emaxx tranny.

yeah it does not work for me either.
only http://www.rc4wdstore.com/ works for me.

Can you post a link to this E-maxx trans? it has a selectable 2 speed transmission?
I thought it will only shift automatically when you get to a certain speed that a crawler can not get to (using centrifugal force). Or is the a mod that you can do to make it selectable with the use of a servo.

Also, a cheap servo is all one would need to move the slider for the actual changing of gears right? the spektrum DS821 should do it just fine right?

I have an R2D in my axial. You just have to make another skid plate to mount it.

Emaxx is selectable it is not like a TMAXX and shifts based on RPM.

Can you post some pic? and any tips will nice. I'm planning to get regular R2 .. I though about 2 speed but I think I will use single speed R2 tranny

when you mount the R2, does the motor stick out more? I guess if you mount more on rear side you have more room. did you use short shaft? I know RC4WD has short shaft kit as well..

Ahh I just realized, that the 2 reviews that I linked to above were the 1 speed version.
I'm only interested in the 2 speed version. So it would have to be this one:
http://rc4wdstore.com/product_info.php?products_id=593

jmizoguchi - why would you want the 1 speed version? durability?

Crawln Coles - which version is the R2D? is it 2 speed? (and pics would be very nice)

and few more questions on the E-maxx tranny - any link to where you can buy just the tranny? and does it require th euse of a servo to slide it from one gear to another?

why you say that.. I was looking this one
http://rc4wdstore.com/product_info.p...roducts_id=515

I could use 2 speed as well... I was maybe looking to do R2 disconnect but that is all depends on my spektrum DX3.0. How well my 3rd chan. will work

Most people don't want 2 speeds. More weight since you'll have a bigger heavier trans and another servo.

For a true competition rig a 2 speed is often overlooked because of both weight and another possible thing to fail in an important time.

jmizoguchi - I was saying that because you said "I'm planning to get regular R2 .. I though about 2 speed but I think I will use single speed R2 tranny" but I think the stock single speed AX-10 transmission is fine. So I cant see the reason to get the 1 speed. I thought you might have had another reason why you would want the 1 speed R2.

binaryterror- You are right, those are the reason why comp rigs dont have them. But I was a Nylint purchaser, and it was nice when the 3-5 of my friends would go out, and we would switch them to high speed and drive down a trail, switch it to low speed and rock crawl for a while, then go back to high speed and go down the trail to the next set of rocks.

I know some of you will say, stop being lazy and just carry it, but I liked the fast speed of it to carry it self and spare batteries to the next "climbing spot"

I got a reply back from RC4WD:

for servo he said "you need to get something with 100lbs of torque or more, Spektrum DS821 are high end, but if you got the cash, go for it..."
I'm using the DS821 because I have them left over from when I bouhgt my DX7 airplane radio.

Then I asked if it would work/fit in the AX-10: "2 speed works, single speed tranny works too, you do need to drill some additional holes to mount the tranny - but if you plan to just go for single speed, you might as well stick to the stock tranny, because it works well too"

Then for the shaft: "we are working on custom one that fit AX10 axle and R2 tranny. not release yet" I believe that you can use the current R2 2 speed transmission, but you have to cut the shaft. I have an e-mail to him on this...

Only reason I was going to get some RC4WD tranny is I have TLT and though I would use axial tranny on TLT and use RC4WD tranny on Axial.

it was a thought since I need tranny for TLT to make fun and faster truck.. not crawling on TLT...

All right he e-mailed me back and said that I can use the current shaft they have on it, just needs some modification.
