novak goat crawler system GOOD OR BAD??

Wondering If This Is A Good System To Buy?

mamba max is dead on, you wont get many; if any arguements on that ESC for being the best. Outright winner.

Motor, well that is a different beast. It all depends on your driving style, crawling needs, and physical limitations (how big the motor can be, you are running a ax-10; not an issue here) More wheel speed, go BL. More low end control, go lathe.

One of the great things about the mamba maxx is you can try a bunch of different motors without changing the esc.

My suggestion. Mamba Maxx. 55t lathe. Save some money and spend it on a good radio setup and servo.

If you are going to run a crawlmaster or any brushless go with the quark 33, hands down better that the mamba max.

rooster crawler and 55t integy motor works great never fails

Mamba Maxx and 5 turn colbalt from Holmes Hobbies is what I run in mine. On 11.1 Lipo is is unbelievable. Bad thing is it heats up quick and I would only advise it's use in comp situations. For almost the same results but way longer run times you can bump up to the 10 turn colbalt from Holmes.

All good options. The novak goat system aint bad either, lots of wheelspeed and low speed control.

brushed motors are too heavy for such a small rig. i would recommend a mamba max and a bm9 from tcs. i run this in my ax 10 with a 2 cell apogee lipo and it works awesome. and its extremely light:

X2!!!!!!

Too heavy? I run a 7 ounce brushed motor in mine and it handles great. Weight down low on the front axle cancels out the "heavy" motor and I get more power. Nothing wrong with a brushed motor.

Why? is it because is is smooth at very low speeds, or less cogging?

The mamba seems attractive because you can program it on the Computer. Even when properly programed, you still think the quark is better? any Why?

(not being argumentative, I just want to hear your opinion. I have a quark 33 in my Trex Helicopter, and I was thinking whether I should get a mamba max for my crawler, or take the quark 33 out of the heli for the crawler, and replace the Trex with a castle creations phoenix 35.)

Compared to the current mamba max and mamba 25 software, the quark is much smoother and slower on startup. It is also quiet.

FrankyRizzo 11-16-2007 11:02 AM

I like it because you can program it without a PC. It is smoother in my opinion. I set mine to 100% initial torque and I have never had cogging or stall at all.

Grizzly4x4 11-16-2007 11:46 AM

Mamba Maxx, 10 turn Cobalt Puller from Holmes Hobbies, and 8-9 2/3A cells or 11.1V LiPo.

No better combination for butter smooth throttle control with excellent wheelspeed. "thumbsup""thumbsup"

The mamba controllers dont need a PC either, they are stick programmable too.

Holmes is right, The novak goat brushless system never fails to impress, I've also found the reverse delay and drag brakes especially helpful in competitions.

That's why both Gatekeeper (2.2 national /West Coast/ SERCRC seasonal champ ) and Rx Crawler (mid west champ) run brushed motors.

They're so heavy!

JohnRobHolmes 11-16-2007 12:55 PM

RX crawler used fatty Crawlmaster BL outrunners in his clod with quark ESCs. I didn't even know he was running brushless till he told me.
