Default AX10 skid idea

Here are some pictures of a skid I designed and made from cutting board material for my AX10. This skid creates double triangulation on the links and so far it is working great for me. I still need to round off the bottom side edges as they hang up sometimes because they are square.

If anyone with the ability to mass produce these in Delrin or other material would like, I can send exact plans for this and all I ask for in return is a free production skid in return. I do not have the tools materials or ability to make these in bulk and to a respectable quality. As you can see its a little ghetto, but still works, and should give a good idea on the purpose. This is not intended to be a "feeler" thread as I am not selling anything. It is more of a "check this out" and "somebody make this professionally" thread.

Very nice. It's cool to see the new guys thinking.

I'd recommend making it skinnier though The skinnier you make the bottom of the chassis, the skinnier your drag path will be. moocho bettero

Its great to see other people use this on different chassis and crawlers. I cant put my finger on it but I saw this on a tuber build one time and plan on using it also. I love the cutting board material also, the best I found is Faber ware. They had it on sale at biglots and I bought 7 cutting boards for future use. It looks good, and good luck.

Yea, thats not a bad idea at all. Not sure exactly how much width I could loose, but I do have some cutting board left that I could hack up. I may just cut this one down a bit tomorrow and see how it works. I would also like to get a belt sander and sand off the cutting board "texture" as I think it causes a little more friction than it should along with removing the leading edges on the bottom of the skid. Thanks for the input!

How much you wanna bet you can loose?

My Axial chassis is only 2 1/4" wide at the bottom

it is also much too long, on pic #5, you can see that your u-joint has been pushed down due to the lower links being pushed back. you either need to make the skid shorter, or the links shorter.

Can we get some flex shots with that double triangulation? I was always told that was a bad thing...

He could lengthen the upper links to turn the pinion angle back up. The gateceeper chassis has a simular lower link design. The uppers run parallel on the GC-1.
Great Idea, you might want to talk to your local machine shop to have them CNC mill cut. Once you get the programing done the rest just get cheeper.
Way to think out of the box.

Make the skid shorter? Yes,that'd be a good idea, less to drag on. BUT,you'd have to make your lower links longer then

To fix the pinion hanging down...it'd be better to build longer uppers. If you want to keep your pinion from digging in the dirt when at full droop... your uppers need to be the same or longer than the lowers

Even on a sprung set up. Same length uppers/lowers will keep the pinion angle consistent throughout the suspension arch. Uppers a tad longer than lowers will push the pinion up a tad during compression on a sprung set up

Same principles, just backwards results cause the suspension is working in reverse.

Common guys. It takes more than a skid plate to get outside the box and build. Lets see something......

I know there are tons of others, but mine was one of the tubers that did this.

I really like that set up and will continue to do so on any future tubers I make.

doesn't really matter sense its the rear axle , might even give the c's a little more clearance or it might take some away didn't really look.

It was actually a little test I was doing, I thought it may improve the handling have the fronts angles one way the the rears the opposite but really there was no improvement. Also there is no clearance difference that I noticed.

Still working on the skid, progress is slow because the dremmel battery doesn't hold much of a charge these days. May be time to upgrade to the Li-Po model. Hopefully, I will have it finished tonight and can get some more pictures up then.
