Very nice job Rockcrawler what size tube did you use I was asking because I made my own 70mm upper links out 3/16 solid rod and they turned out pretty good "thumbsup"

Rockcrawler 12-05-2007 08:04 AM

Thanks guys. I believe its 1/4 . But the best thing is that its stainless. Slides very nice on the rock. "thumbsup" When I get everything setup, I am going to make better looking links, just trying to get the length and angels right."thumbsup"

125mm or 4.92 inches Center to center.;-)

Nice ! I made some out of 1/4 inch 316 L stainless and love them. I cut mine 4.000 long and bent a 3/4 rad 1.5 inches from 1 end. Makes it only slightly longer than stock. I like the heavy weight links on the bottom,I was running some I made out of black delrin. The flex was good and bad,but the COG differance the S.S. ones make is worth it's weight!

Rockcrawler 12-11-2007 09:21 AM

Stainless is the best I have found to use because of the fact that there strong, and slide very well on the rocks. ;-)

Dave, do you run comps? I dont think you can with those links because of the WB.

Cave Dave 12-11-2007 09:49 AM

No comps yet... The wheel base came out within a 1/4 in of stock. The nice thing is I was able to get a killer pinion angle. I made a home brew 4 link mount out of 1/4 inch 4140 bar stock for the rear and run much longer than stock links on top. Again the heavy weight in the right spot...centered on the axle.

Yep,drilled new holes farther forward on the chassis and reused the Axial links with spacers. Works great, almost no torque twist or axle steering.

Go on the internet to McMaster Carr or M.S.C. they both have all sizes and can get them to you overnight if needed. They also are a great source of screws and all-thread. I also get it free from work.....somtimes I order a little extra material for jobs !

miller 12-11-2007 10:48 PM

BLING! "thumbsup"

ky_18b 12-12-2007 11:18 AM

Those look really nice! Did you have to tap (thread) the stainless rods or did they come pre threaded?

I used stainless tubing and all thread on mine.

JUSTGOINGSLOW 12-12-2007 01:18 PM

Hay Rockcrawler what is the degree of angle right now and how far up do you have the bend

Rockcrawler 12-12-2007 01:30 PM

Not real sure on the angle. I just had 2 spare pieces sitting here so I bent one until it looked right, then just matched the other. I am still working on them so things are going to change. I have already cut 1/4" off of the bent side. Still needs a little more to get them level.

JUSTGOINGSLOW 12-12-2007 02:18 PM

I think i'm going to make the attempt to make my own bent links I have to just get some kind of a angle gauge just to get close but pretty much by eye
