can't wait to see it all together.. It's so much fun when you finally get your parts rounded up and get to start putting it all together

Red Rockcrawler 12-09-2007 08:55 PM

Talk to the painter said piece of cake paint job. So I need to get some replacement panels and send them his way.

Red Rockcrawler 12-15-2007 06:31 PM

Well I was holding off putting my axles together. But the last of my axle upgrades didn't show up today. I ordered them from RCP on the 10th and shipped they were shipped on the 12th. Now they are sitting in Anchorage, AK.

I guess Alaska is between California and Washington.

So here is the axles together with what parts I do have.

Question for you guys should I do the stock green links or do delrin links?

little Loopie 12-19-2007 01:52 AM

IMO, delrin would look more sinister:twisted:

I made and ran some black delrin links, they are great on the front but would flex A LOT on the back. I made some new bent links from 316 stainless and then bead blasted them ,I kinda like the flat silver look better than green. Not that there's anything wrong with green ! It is my favorite color of M&M !

I would use aluminum or SS, not Delrin on the links. Way to much flex for this application. If you use aluminum you can have them anodizes GREEN.

dieselfuel 12-19-2007 05:39 PM

ive never liked delrin for links it gets scratched up and doesnt slide as well over the rocks.. i use stainless steel personally, i like the weight and the fact that its considerably more durable than aluminum or delrin.

tdeal823 12-19-2007 08:55 PM

I like it!!!
The carbon body panels will look good one the green tubes"thumbsup"

El Gooch 12-19-2007 10:11 PM

what are you useing for the carbon fiber. If you could, please let me know. Maybe even some pigs.

milla1122 12-20-2007 12:48 AM

love that powder coating

mysharona 12-20-2007 10:20 AM

these work great for links...

http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/general-crawlers/96811-building-ultimate-links.html

they dont bend at all and they are light weight.

Those look cool but I'm looking at trying to get some titanium tubing and make links from that.

I also got my rims in tonight from the auction for zach that I won.

Red Rockcrawler 12-23-2007 03:45 PM

Well give me 5 days off and gloomy rainy day and 8 foot piece of delrin. I started to make the links for it.

I wanted to try use titanium for the links but the spot I saw it at last is gone.

http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...e/DSC01020.jpg

pup 12-23-2007 06:22 PM

Lookin good!! It's going to be alot of green. I think the carbon panels might break it up just enough though.

Red Rockcrawler 12-26-2007 08:57 PM

Titanium is on order. I'm going to sleeve all-thread with the titanium for all the links. I got 36" of it coming.

That's what she said"thumbsup".
I wanted to complement you on the build. Looks nice. Had to throw that in there since its been going around lately.

Red Rockcrawler 12-26-2007 10:53 PM

Well since it is 36" that is what she says.

Red Rockcrawler 01-05-2008 12:21 AM

Well my link tube just came in today. 3AL-2.5V titanium
http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...e/DSC01082.jpg

This with 8/32 threaded rod through it. Kinda crappy pic but it fills the tube. So I can use Revo ball ends instead of tmaxx.

dieselfuel 01-05-2008 12:25 AM

sweet, i wanna see how this works out.

Red Rockcrawler 01-05-2008 12:53 AM

Oh you know you will. If it goes great all my rigs are getting the same treatment.

Forgive my ignorance, Where did you get the 3AL-2.5V titanium tube at?
Was it from FleaBay?

Red Rockcrawler 01-05-2008 02:16 AM

Yes from EBAY

Red Rockcrawler 01-05-2008 01:18 PM

Here is one link that I made. Takes alot longer to cut the tube with a tubing cutter than brake line.

I also need to go get more rod ends today.

http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...e/DSC01084.jpg

4u2nv 01-05-2008 01:26 PM

What size is that tubing... O.D. and I.D. if you have it.

I assume the O.D. is 1/4 inch?

Red Rockcrawler 01-05-2008 01:47 PM

It is 1/4" X .028 X 18"ALLOY 3AL-2.5V. 8/32 threaded rod fits in it nice then I'm using revo ballends.

Red Rockcrawler 01-05-2008 08:53 PM

Well I did it finished making all the links out of the titanium that I bought. I ordered 36 inches but they sent me 48" I have almost 22" left. So I think all of my other rigs will be getting the titanium treatment also.

Well here is some pics of all the links done.

4u2nv 01-05-2008 08:57 PM

That came out real nice. It's one of the best looking Hustlers I've seen. I wonder who got the blue one Double J powder coated? He did this one as well right?
