I'm glad to hear that it wheels well. Stu said his top made his a little too top heavy to wheel very well.

Negative, they are from a Kyosho 4Runner/Pathfinder, however a member on scale 4x4 makes some badass ones with a hub lock out too. Id give ya his name but he isnt a vendor here and I dont want to get him in trouble ;) Today I spent the day in the garage, freezing my ass off, to start on my wild horse front bumper. I start out making the main bar, and the stinger part if you would call it that. I am far from being good at tube work, I am certainly no Hulk Werks, Boyer, or people more recently such as greasypete and wrecker who have been throwing down some awesome tube work but I try my best... I clamped the main bar down and angled the stinger how I wanted it. Added some flux, heated it up with my Mapp torch and some harris safety silv 56 and was good to go The main bar and stinger is 3/16 solid rod, and for the angled parts I used 1/8 inch solid. Clamped the bumper in the vice, cut the pieces to length and grind the angles into them and using the 3rd hand brazed them into place I really like Brandons scout here:Building on a Budget: My Scout X Trail and I liked his bumper/skid plate he made out of the stock high lift skid and I wanted to do something similar on mine. I found one Bronco in the wild horse catalog that had something like this so I did my best to model this bumper off it. I cut out the skid plate, if you will call it that, and bent the tubing around it probably one of the hardest parts was brazing in the nuts that would hold the skid onto the bumper, as already stated, I am no pro as brazing and building tubed creations so I thread a bolt into the nut and held it in place with my 3rd hand and brazed it in the best I could Nothing ever go simples and one of the bolts brazed itself into the nut so I broke it off then I drilled it out and re-tapped the nut After that I brazed it in, took a 3 tries to get the angle right, but I finally got it where I wanted it These next couple of pictures are HORRIBLE in quality... I learned that when the low battery indicator light starts flashing that my macro mode stops functioning and picture quality is in the shitter so with that said, I brazed in the last 2 pieces to support the lower skid area and tie it into the best of the bumper made 2 simple tabs off of the frame, and brazed the bumper on tomorrow I will make the plate which will attach to the top skid plate bolt holes and will mount my winch to that. Then I need to take it all apart, wash off all the flux and get it into some paint. Stay tuned

Wow look awesome Mike, you did what only crossed my mind X2 What 3/16th rod did you use? Looks a lot cleaner than brake line. Bends nice too. |

Yeah but this took me 4 hours to make Yours is simple, looks great and probably took 10% of what mine took so much for keeping this thing simple... I like it so much that I have been feeling compelled to go all out on it...well at least with what I have in the basement..once I get a job again its gonna be on like donkey kong I gave up on brake line, I can never get the bends to look the way I want, they are to rounded and not tight enough, but if I make them tighter it kinks so now I use solid 90% of the time. I get it from home depot in their metal isle but the key to getting it bent right is all in the bender... made by the one and only Juggsterr

Ahh I didn't read everything, didn't realize that was solid rod... That bumper probably balances out the weight of the top I think I am going to start using SS rod, brakeline never bends well |

Hey, I'm thinking about getting the X-Trail and the hardware kit. What comes with the X-Trail; just the side plates? Also, what comes in the X-Trail Hardware Kit? Can you use this setup but with TLT axles without difficulty? Thanks. Very nice build by the way! |
