Bought a ridgecrest, and decided to make a thread on it to show my mods and get some input. Cheap mods I've done so far: Flipped the suspension links to lengthen the truck and lower the cg Changed coarse thread screws to m3 x 10mm (knuckles and frame) Removed bumpers Drilled a new hole in the servo horn for more steering torque. Custom mods: Built a new battery tray for the front. Heavier, but more secure. Soon I'll change the pinion to a 17 or 18 tooth to reduce stress on the motor. I'm also going to make some links next month. A couple pics |

Looks good, nice job on the battery tray. How much more weight do you think it adds

Upgraded my ridgecrest: I added new 5/16 stainless links with jato ends. I also beefed up the axles with the axial universal axles. I made the links from 5/16" stainless tubing with socket head bolts welded into ends. Then threaded on the jato ends. Here's some pics: |

Bought some parts from asiatees.com I bought steering knuckles, c-hubs, lock outs, steering linkage, drive shafts, and a motor heat sink. The knuckles, c-hubs, and lock outs are nice. They're a good upgrade from plastic for cheap, but not as nice as higher end aluminum products. The linkages were longer than stock, creating some toe out. These could be modified for cheap for zero toe. The drive shafts didn't impress me. Held together with set screws. Probably will modify, or buy really good ones. $80 for the works. | Re: Project_mayhem's ridgecrest I realized that i had the links on the top of the knuckles, and put them underneath. Now the toe-in is neutral. I had a moment. The price was great, and i'm looking forward to putting them through abuse. Chubs $13.60 Knuckles $15.50 Lock-outs $9.32 Linkage $10.90 Decent quality for dirt cheap. |

Thanks man. I installed my holmes hobbies 27 turn expert crawler motor. Has decent wheel speed, and crawls amazingly with a 18t pinion. One nice motor. After some experimenting, i'm moving my battery to the front axle. I'll make up a bracket soon.

| Re: Project_mayhem's ridgecrest Just the stock axial esc. I'll upgrade when it dies. Thinking about cutting weight by getting a couple 1500mah 3s lipos. The current battery tray will be replaced with cross tubes, possibly delrin rod. There is a company here that sells it. Looking at some weighted wheels, and some soft crawler tires too. Thinking about a mini cooper body for it.

| Re: Project_mayhem's ridgecrest I'm not sure how you read it, but i'd run it off 1 3s lipo, but i like having two packs on hand for longer run times, and to have a spare if one screws up. Definitely getting the cooper body. I really liked the scion ridgecrest a member did here. This thing is miles from scale, so i figured it would be something diiferent, to set mine apart. Hopefully i can get everything i need to upgrade it next month. Funds are a little tight after my vegas vacation. |
