Ridgecrest new motor
 

Hi i have a ridgecrest and i want more torque and power, wich motor will u recommend that doesn't need any other modification or what package (motor and esc) would be good as well?

a HH 35t motor will give you speed and torque, as for a ESC ,tekin fxr or
hh brxl

I have a 55T motor with a 18 or 19 pinionstock, cant remember, stock ESC. Is slow with a 2s lipo but great low end speed control and power. For a bit more power, a 3s lipo makes the same set up much more punchy. The stock CC ESC says 2s lipo right on it but I have used some 3s punch packs with no issues.

any motor with a removable end bell between 35-45turn will do this rig just fine.

I say the removable end bell simply because there is more quality with those motors over the closed end bell

take apart that old cordless drill that wont take a charge anymore. use the motor out of that, i did.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but why is everyone staying with brushed motors? Why not something like the tekin 412 roc brushless setup?

How well are you funds for the upgrading the vehicle?
DO you want torque to crawl with finess with acceptable speed?
or do you want a wheelie monster?

This is an area where what you want to do with the truck will determine what will make you happy power wise...Ill make this as simple as possible

1.) brushless on 3s or better power will have you spending big money on upgrades you wouldn't otherwise need..Especially a Tekin 412 roc motor.
On a 2s you may be ok and it will still be faster on the top end than a brushed motor but you will sacrifice low speed control/torque.

2.) Brushed motors offer better low speed control and torque for slow crawling.

A 27T brushed motor will give you the most speed with plently of torque..a 35T will increase torque but sacrifice speed..55t even slower but more torque.

If you want a speed demon then go with brushless..if you want the best in crawling with faster than power walking speeds then you cant get better than a brushed motor...But get a rebuildable brushed motor that you can adjust timing on..Sealed can motors are good for bashing and running in mud or water (cheap to replace) but they aren't near the power and torque of a good rebuildable motor.

If you have to go with brushless make sure its a sensored ESC/Motor system..Its the closest to a brushed motor down low but not quite as good.

I have a 27t in one of my Ridges, and it crawls noticeably better then the stock 20t, but it is slower. I like the stock 20t because I like to crawl and bash, if you only want to crawl I would get a hd 35t.

I would say a motor that is a 45t or 55t is great for torque. Now they make tekin, Holmes Hobby, rc4wd and so on. On my ridgecrest I am running the ax-2 esc (stock) and a cheap axial 55t motor. Although this is a cheap set-up I will use till its burnt. The battery and servos can play a huge part in what your doing, I also recommend that you get a servo with at least 330 oz. because with the tires that i am running (Rovers with weighted to 5 oz. each) will require a new servo. I know this thread is on a motor but just wanted to give some suggestions, - axial 4x4 crawler
