Default AX10... What to do, what to do.

I recently acquired an AX10 that's in pretty good shape and immediately changed the battery and receiver locations. I like how it handles but it seems the Ridgecrest is kind of in between classes, and it's got me thinking, what direction do I want to take it?

I have two options in mind...

1) Make it into a 2.2 trail rig, or...
2) turn it into a 2.2 Shafty comp crawler

Thoughts/suggestions welcome.

I like the idea of doing a trail rig, but then someone let me run their comp crawler and that's what got my wheels turning.

Be different from everyone else man. If you want a super capable rig, build it. If you want a good trail rig, build it.

Yeah what they said! but seriously you can pick up a chassis on ebay for like 40 $ and its could be aluminum use that to start peicing together a comp crawler uses this as a trail. after all you will have to buy pretty much everything anyways.

That's one of the things I like about the crawler segment of the hobby. There's an openness, moreso, to build any rig how you want it... Comp or Trail.

Anyone have thoughts or input on the BWD Wedge and/or Gate Keeper GC3A chassis?

That chassis is a little more extreme then the AX10/Ridgecrest chassis.
The Ridgecrest chassis is a pretty good design, Light adjustable, Strong.
Add the Chassis brace from axial and it eliminated the tiwst on the chassis even more.
The Chassis you mentioned are more for motor on axle rigs then a shaft driven crawler.

I definitely agree, and have no complaints about the stock 2nd-gen chassis. However, I'm aware that for my rig to be remotely competitive in a 2.2 Sportsman class it'll need a more suitable chassis and overall setup.

That said, for kicks and grins, I could always see just how far I can push the stock chassis.

Both the gatekeeper and wedge chassis are shafty chassis. The gatekeeper is an old chassis but still competive and the wedge is a great comp chassis

I one first place in the Comp class with my Ridgecrest.
2nd was a XR10.
The Ax10 is a very capable crawler.

So does a wedge chassis, just use all the old ax 10 parts and bolt on?
