IMHO the the scx10 is a pile compared to my AX10. Everything on it seams much weaker, and the servo interference with the chassis is horrible. Anyway, I guess the real reason the AX10 is getting dropped is due to sales. There just isn't much talk about them, and most people I run i to have never heard of it. It really is a shame. I think it was one of the best performing out of the box crawlers out there.

I've heard from a few people that the Bomber is better at crawling than the Wraith is, actually. It has better articulation and a low-forward battery position.

I suspect Axial's scale-crawler market is happy with the SCX10, and their 2.2"-tire vehicles are just for goofing around nowadays. I mean, they got out of the comp-crawler market as soon as they killed off the XR10, and they never got back in.

I should get another Wraith RTR before they kill that one off too. I want to make one into a monster truck someday, but mostly I just like it enough that I want to have two of them.

The Ridgecrest came after the XR10, but unfortunately they tried to please too many people with it. Was it Comp? Was it a Scaler?

What I would have liked to see was a more serious entry for people looking to get into 2.2s. I really liked my Ridgecrest after some mods, but it would have been just as easy if I had started with bare axle tubes and worked out from there.

A few friends and I are building our own class of crawlers using OG ax10 chassis with scx skids and ar60's. That's about as basic biotch as you can get and really pretty much a ghetto ridgecrest.

Re-releasing the OG chassis with AR60's would have been a good move for Axial.

That's pretty much what this rig already is.

It's my basher and stress reliever. Easily the most fun rig I own and it has little money invested.

I would've liked a Ridgecrest. I like the body style on it.

The true spirit of Sportsman before it was taken over.

I don't know that it was taken over so much as human nature wasn't locked down by strict rules against bling bling high dollar parts.

PsychoJ-lo and I are building rigs with no current class to be cheap and fun.

Scx or ar60's, scx may be xr modded but stock plastic knuckles and C hubs only.
Scx trans
Ax chassis
Scx or ax skid
Any links can be used
14" wheel base max
Any brushed electronics as long as it's s 55 turn motor
Proline sx (shorter 2.2s) only since pretty much everyone has a set

Everything else is up to the builder.

I like those but would also like to see a minimum weight rule. Even bicycle racing has a minimum weight rule...never understood why crawling omitted this.

Add that to a Pro/Novice class driver separation and we could see a growth again.

I have no problem with a minimum weight rule at all. We had actually discussed being able to run beef tubes and the like as well as weighted wheels for that cheap old school vibe. ( ) but any weight had to be hand fabricated. I don't give a damn if you have a 50,000 watt lazer and a 5 axis cnc mill in your mom's basement. Any beef tubes, weights etc need to be hand made 1998 style.

What if we had a mill in 1998?

Just kidding, and I get where you're coming from. I like that rule too. Hand tools only sounds good to me.

Probably because people tend to overbuild their crawlers enough that setting a minimum weight limit would be nothing more than a formality. Look at all the crawlers with welded steel rollcages -- those things are nowhere near lightweight.

Not in sportsman or pro. Uber lightweight is the name of the game. Once upon a time having $1000 in a rig was crazy. Now people have damned near that in jusy carbon fiber and titanium hardware.

An entry level type class with some pretty locked down rules would take the pay to win element out of it and force innovative solutions rather than visa solutions.

Exactly...we're talking comp not scale.

I remember when Sportsman was first being talked about. The idea was to use those cheap, heavy and shaft driven trucks that were pro trucks just a few years earlier.

Then the idea of 2.2s came about and the money race started again.

You two have had me thinking the last couple days lol ..... I was trying to plant the seed locally for something of a beginner class for 2016. I never followed through besides writing rules up basically leaving drivers allowed to change battery types with limits, servos for strength and only approved tires from a list plus a few other things.

But you guys had me thinking last night, don't know if you seen it but curious if you had any input into it.

I've never even been a spectator at s comp but I've watched all the builds since pretty much the beginning and every class ends up in a money race.

I've finally decided to try my hand at 2.2s. My rig is on par with probably 80% of rigs on the forum but I'm already rebuilding aiming at the top 1%. Why? #humannature

I think a locked down class will be fun and pretty cheap for new comers.
