Gavin built himself a unique crawler. It's a mix of old school and new school tech. He will post a build thread soon.

Gavin is getting tall. How many of you remember when he was 8 years old at the 2010 USRCCA National Championship where he finished 56th out of 100 entries?

You know that you are really enjoying yourself when you spend time and money on a project. The Formula has been driven multiple battery packs now and it was time to tune the set up. I'm starting with steering knuckles. Dlux Fab offers so many options, here's what I choose to use.
Dlux Brass lowers
Dlux Aluminum knuckles drilled for slugs
Dlux Fab Tungsten weights
Dlux Fab Carbon Fiber uppers

Gavin and I drove The Formula for a battery pack before the sun set today. The Formula is noticeably more stable and predictable. Not as front heavy as it was before. After driving it, I suspect that the suspension springs may be too stiff, and that the rear axle could use a little weight.

The winter solstice on 12.21.2018 was exceptionally beautiful. After watching the sunrise, Gavin and I pulled out the comp crawlers to film and appreciate the boulders at Love's Lookout.

This is the fourth video for the 2.2 competition 4x4 build named, "The Formula". Edmundo Ayala of Crawler Innovations built this custom remote control competition rock crawler to compete in the Activated Outlaw Competition Series. This custom build features a Y Town Crawlers carbon fiber "Sporticus" chassis, Dlux Fab AR44 based SSDLUX custom axles with 8mm axle shafts, Hulksta carbon fiber "left skinny" transmission with titanium shaft and hardened Axial Racing XR10 gears, Vanquish Products titanium links, Traxxas 3.5" big bore modded shocks, Crawler Innovations 6 Bolt Wheels P/N CWR-5003; Cut N Shut Ottsix Voodoo pins in the silver compound, Crawler Innovations Double Deuce Foams, Hitec steering servo, Castle Creation BEC wired to power only the servo, it will run on either 3S or 4S lipo.

In this video, Gavin is testing the modifications to the front Dlux Fab knuckle weights. The top plates were switched from brass to carbon fiber, among a few changes being tested. The Dlux Fab knuckle weights allow for fine tuning. The main body of the knuckle are offered in brass or aluminum, can be fitted with brass or tungsten weights, while the upper and lower arms are offered in carbon fiber, brass, or aluminum.

I changed the Formula before the past two videos were filmed and posted but the updates were never posted so here they are. I changed the front springs to super soft Dlux springs and used the mini t pink springs in the rear.

Installed

Next on the list was steering stops.

Next on the list was to change the knuckle aluminum main body to a brass body and keep the tungsten weigh the same along with the upper carbon plate and the lower brass plate.

Aluminum knuckle with tungsten and steering stops weight=60 grams

Brass knuckle with tungsten and steering stops weight=109 grams

I widened the upper links at the chassis side and used jeepindoug 6mm aluminum ball studs.

This brings the build to current day.

Gavin and I (Edmundo Ayala) will be driving and filming RC cars on February 2nd at these locations. We will have a practice course or two set up for Activated Outlaw. Consider this your formal invite to stop by, drive your RC car and meet other hobbyists. This is not a competition or full blown event. This a get together with focus on driving and visiting. I hope to see you there and possibly get your RC car on camera.

It has been many months, maybe a year since this comp crawler has left the shelf it resides on. With the addition of new rock to the city park, I knew comp courses would be tough. Crawler Innovations Donated two dump trucks worth of iron ore boulder size rocks to the White Oak city remote control park. This Saturday was the First Activated Outlaw get together to try out all the new rock! It was a great get together! Thank you to Brian for helping score and thank you to everyone that came out! This video has footage from course 1 Competition 4X4. Enjoy!
