Default New Capra build, need KV opinions

Hello all, I am going to the hobby shop in about 1/2 hr to pick up my Capra and I have a few questions from peeps that have built them already. I was thinking of a HH PP just don't know what kV rating would be best, for that matter is there a reason to go with a stubby? I want to keep 5mm pinion shaft.
I am going to use a CC Mamba X I already have and probably either Reefs 444 or Hitec D950TW (so I can program center and end points) also going with Vanquish 105's 225 hubs and I will be adding more light and a winch.
Also I haven't used Axial shocks in years are the stock one pretty good, if not I was thinking of grabbing a set of Kronik 100mm's. Thanks for your help, I will be mostly just having fun on rock piles make try a competition if I can find one. Ed

I have a 2700kv stubby in mine and could definitely afford to lose some top end, running 3s and an 11t pinion. Plenty of power to break the clutch loose, and it lets me get away with running the smaller Mamba Micro X esc, so no real downside to the stubby for me. A 2200kv, or less if you intend to run 4s, may be a better match for the Capra.

Not going to be running 4s, 3s will be the limit, sounds like maybe with my ESC choice going with the 2200 might be a way to go to keep the good grunt and not having a bunch of overhead hi-end that wont get used? I sent JH an email asking him his thoughts maybe he will pop in to add to the opinions to ponder. Thank you TLJ!

I decide after watching a few YT vids that I will start with a 2700kV Puller Pro and go from there, ordered the method 105's and Hyrax orange dots, the axial servo saver parts tree so I can use a different micro servo, its going to be Spektrum 5ch, 1 aux for the DIG, 1 aux for lighting and 1 aux for rock lights all switched from TX. I went with a Hitec D-950TW for steering and either a D-85MG or a MKS-HV69 for the DIG control. This will be my first full blown crawler in over 6 years and that one was a Wraith! Very much looking forward to starting in on it!! need to find those comparison pictures to actual rigs, I like leaning scale when I can. Thanks, E

I finally got mine up and running today. I’m using a Mamba X and a 3500kv Puller Pro on a Reedy 3S. WAAAYYYY too much motor. It’ll pull wheelies in my driveway from a roll!!! I would get a 2700Kv, maybe even a 2100kv depending on battery. I would also recommend getting a stubby motor due to space.

2200 stubby would be my first recommendation. We are moving the shop capra from a 1800 revolver to a 2200 stubby. Well, did it already today. Just right on 3s with a 10t pinion IMO.

Yeah, at the last minute Jeff replied to my contact question on your site and I changed it to a 2200 PP, he didn't mention the stubby, for that matter I didn't either, any downside to the regular PP over the Stubby?

thats right, we did use a standard. It needs a bit of shaving the link mount to fit, the stubby doesn't. standard has a lot better drag brake.

I have a 2300 roc in my capra and its solid on 3s with a 11 tooth pinion. Lots of fun on 4s too.

I've been looking at this motor for an all Tekin install as well. Did you need to do any trimming to make it fit?

Just the tiniest bit of shaving on the inside edge of the rear upper link mount..

Guys my searches are coming up empty. Any recommendations for a waterproof HV micro (dig) servo?

it's 6v only though right? Looking for something that will work at 7.4v. Ideally I'd like to run both dig and steering servo from the ESC's BEC @7.4v

Unofficially they are good to 7.4. My trx4 runs 7.4 and has for about a year without skipping a beat.

The PowerHD TR-4, made to replace the 2065, is good for 7.4v.

MKS, Reef both make one that will handle 7.4v

Why not install the Holmes Receiver Bypass, along with an external BEC? That way, you can use the external BEC (such at the CC BEC 2.0, which is rated up to 15A) to power the steering servo at 7.4V, plus use the ESC's internal BEC, set at 6V, to power everything else (DIG servo, LEDs, etc).

Ah cool! Can’t beat the price either.

Yeah thought of that but I really was looking to try and keep the wiring simple, no leds. Used to build and fly drones before they regulated the fun out of it. Even the TBS Discovery with a PCB frame could turn into a tangle of wires if you weren’t careful. I say this now but who knows what might happen later, I just realized I got a lot of FPV stuff collecting dust.
