Default Aluminum skid plate

Anyone know if someone is making one? Have a Capra based project in mind but, there's too much flex with the stock skid.

You getting back into the crawling scene?

As for your question, I am of no help.

Sometimes, skid plate flex can contribute to erratic performance. Fine-tuning to minimise torque twist, can be a challenge.

After seeing the Capra,I knew it was time.
I also knew I'd want the running gear for a project.

It's not torque twist I'm having. It's flex at the skid with the chassis on a project I'm putting together.

You sure your flexing the skid and not the cage? Skid is pretty damn solid, cage not so much.

Your project using heavy wheels and tires, and maybe Metal Housing Axles, as well?

The project I'm working on isn't using the cage.

Nope. SSD wheels with no weights and, stock axles. Probably wouldn't have this problem if I wasn't using frame rails instead of the cage.

AGREE! NOT Delrin or Nylon.

But High Performance Plastics that are valued overall for their excellent properties. NOT 3D Printed but Precision Machined as a replacement for metal parts in the Aerospace Industry. Biggest Challenge is the Cost as they are sold in Huge Quantities.

Does it need to be dropped like the stock skid or would a flat one work?

I printed a skid for a mock up on something and did a 30% infill and its pretty rock solid, took some serious force to twist it a bit. I have no problems with the shafty chassis's using printed skids, I switched to printed skids last year on our chassis.

If you want to try the printed route you can PM me.

There it is. Added a pic of the Treal Aluminum steering servo mount too for good measure.

Rocks dig into soft, Chinese aluminum way too much for my liking. Did you ever think of creating a sheet metal brace for the top of the Capra servo to brace it that way instead?

Nah. I figure a 14 dollar amazon purchase and a couple day wait would be fine to replace the flimsy plastic servo mount. It wraps the servo all the way around too. Solid....

If you have rocks hitting the servo mount then you have bigger issues.

He is talking about the skid. Typical cheap sub standard alumargerine from china is a terrible choice for a skid plate.

It's not about rocks hitting the servo mount... it's the flex in the mount.. check my "Join Date" on these forums... I'm no newbie.. just went dormant for a while....

If you want a more stable servo mount, A.J. (SuperShafty) makes an excellent one, available in silver, or black.

Thanks. That's another option. This Treal one is pretty solid too.
