Default Any UK Capra Owners ?

I'm in the UK and just got myself a Capra. Looking for some advice on upgrades but all the research I am doing just keeps coming back with stuff that only seems to be available in USA, and with the current COVID-19 situation, I reckon getting parts from USA in a timely manner is going to be difficult.

Am looking for upgrade options for....
  • Suspension
  • Metal beadlock wheels with suitable brass weights
  • Any other possible upgrades

Already got myself a Hobbywing XERUN AXE540 1800kv motor/esc combo and a Sanwa SW-1210SG servo.

Suspension - I did the internal pen spring mod and went with Element Enduro Green rate springs. Feels totally dialed, planted. They also bring the ride height down a bit, which is a must for the Capra IMHO.

Beadlocks - There’s a whole thread here under the Capra section about what wheels fit, work with the Capra portals. Like many others here, I went with the Vitavon brass portal covers up front. Awesome fit and finish, and the perfect amount of additional weight up front.

Additional mods - I also did InTheWorksRC high clearance lower links, and the Super Shafty Upper Link mount out back for anti squat on steeps. The rig does things that blow my mind.

Lastly, I went with some JConcepts Landmine tires. They are a game changer. CI foams - comp cut inners. Soft outter up front, Medium outter in back.

You may have trouble getting some of this stuff considering Covid. But, Vitavon portals, element springs, etc should be available on EBAY.

Just finishing up a build in Oxford.

Don't forget RC Mart in Hong Kong - generally you don't get import charges....

I don't know what's available there but SSD has portal weights, aluminum servo mounts, and wheels. There is a thread about SSD wheel fitment in this section.

What weight oils did you use front and rear with that setup?

Have ordered some Element Enduro Green springs and robbed the stationary cupboard at work for the pen springs

I'm in the UK, down in Wiltshire.

Rcbitz are getting the SSD parts back in stock in a few weeks hopefully and there's OIlydiffrc should be getting more vitavon stock soon, including their new brass knuckles.

Yeah, Vitavon on ebay as well. The Chanquish wheels fit and look great on the Capra. Purple springs on mine and they drop it down to a real nice height. Also got the HR 3rd member in brass up front and waiting on another for the rear just to help a little. Gonna get the link risers for the rear as well...

I'm looking to get back into RC cars after a 40 year (!) layoff - I had an XR311 when they first came out - and that's it! The terrain here in Lakeland is perfect for crawling, of course, and I've got a garden full of limestone which should allow for some lockdown play. So I'm very (very!) close to getting myself a Capra to build.
I'll keep you posted!

I'm dithering a bit, because I'm uncertain what to go for, and because it's going to be expensive as I need absolutely everything - transmitter, battery charger, even tools and paints.

Here's what I'm thinking of going for, based at least in part on the "sport package" suggested by Wheelspin:

Capra builders kit (of course)
Spektrum Dx5 Rugged tx, c/w SR515 rx
Hobbywing Quicrun 1080 ESC
Reedy Radon 2 16t, 5 slot, 1850kv brushed motor
Savox SW1210SG servo
Gens Ace 2S 7.6v shorty 5000mAh 100c battery
Etronix Powerpal 3.0 charger/discharger
Safe charge bag, XT60 connectors, ally servo horn, purple springs, shims, Fastrax hex drivers, shock pliers…

The plan is to build it without dig, but I anticipate upgrading in future to:
Metal wheels
Brass portal covers
Overdrive portal gears
11t pinion gear
Metal servo mount.

I'd be interested if anyone can see any pitfalls in my wishlist.

Personally I'd jump to 3s straight away, and then get a cheaper controller set up. As to the other gear it sort of depends upon what usage you envisage for it relative to trail and / or crawling...

There's logic in that, I'll have another think. Ta.
I'm very much focused on crawling - I'm after smooth and slow. Although I do recognise the value of wheel speed to get out of certain situations, speed over the ground is not what I'm after.

I’m all about the crawl myself also. Currently run a HH crawlmaster pro 16t in my Capra . Not tried a Radon but have had one order a few weeks to try in a lesser rig - heard good things though for the price point. Bang a HW1080 on it and cheap as chips...

The 3S is what will give you the crawl and wheel speed when you need it, couldn’t go back these days.. As I’m sure you’re aware, all the voltage does is increase your rpm 👍

As to extras, for crawl you will benefit from the ; weighting, overdrive and 11t pinion. Metal servo bracket helps but other bits bigger priority. On another note you can mod your steering for free and get significant gains...

Trim the steering stops! File more for more steering - various trimming around the portals bit by bit... Then you can file the ujs a little too to minimise the wobble at full lock...

I’ve got a pic on MSUK of current steering angle... Can post close ups if needed..

Pretty sure there will also be pics on here of others....

OK, well I've gone and ordered it, and most of the necessary bits. What I can't track down is a 32p, 11t, 3mm shaft pinion gear. I don't really want to build the kit up without installing this, if possible. So if anyone knows where I can get one, either in the UK or cheaply from overseas…?
