2.2 Sporty Motors - What are folk using??

Just in the process of setting up a Sporty build here in the UK and looking at motors..

Pretty sure I'll be going with a HH Puller 400 as I like light weight, but just not sure which type. I normally drive 16/20t Crawlmaster Pros in my scale rigs and love the low down smoothness and resolution.

Was pretty set on a 16t 5 slot 400 but then the chap I'm getting the chassis off runs the 35t 3 slot stating the drag brake is much better on this..

Got to be honest, the 16t CM Pro on my Capra with an old Tekin FXR really does lack drag brake somewhat - though it does have too larger a pinion at the mo and the Tekin is an older design..

Then I've also found an opportunity of getting a 13t 400 - which I like the sound of but just wonder if it'll be a bit too lively!!..

Wadday'all reckon???.. And what are you running and what do you like about it...

(This particular project will actually be going through Modded AR60 axles )

2.2 Shafty Motors | Your Store

I have the Forsaken in my Pneuma/Capra comp setup and am very happy with it. The capra is light to begin with so a full can motor doesnt hurt the overall weight as much as one would think. Plus having that little extra up top can really help settle the suspension down.

If youre looking for the size and weight part of it you could go with the Conflux or really push the power with the Stubby. They are priced a bit more but youll def get your powers worth for the coin.

The low end torque is big out of any of these motors and Eddie will work with you to really get the power youre looking for.

Thanks Robbob, they certainly look to be splendid motors. I have some Apocalypse units came on my old MOA which I've enjoyed.

With regards my own personal wish, they are a little lardy weight wise and I always seem to get at least mildly obsessed re weight!.. For the chassis I will be running I certainly need a shorter motor and if it's slightly narrower then great also

I am assuming that the Brood motors' larger can diameter will = more torque over a Puiller 400 - so more Puller 500?

How narrow is your chassis or is it motor position thats causing size concern?

I have a 16T with a hamburg tranny in mine, right now Im floating pinions trying to find a sweet spot. Ive been down to an 11 but came all the way up to a 20T. With the reduction on the portals Im finding the motor and trans likes around the 18-20 pinion.

The Stubby I would say a little bigger then a 400 but no bigger then a 500 for sure.

Motor size will help due to driveline. Apparently I can fit a 540 width just its better smaller - I also completely honestly love the weight of the 400 on paper...

I could even fit a 540 in length if I had to but that would kill the rear battery / electronics position possibility is all.

Based in the UK, the chassis is by Psychopat in France...

But yes, you're on a 16t which is what I'd go to normally if it weren't for the relatively local 13t option. I've never driven a 13t but don't find my 16 lacking tbh and certainly am concerned in a lighter sporty rig if this would be too much!..

Just a heads up to say I caved in last night and ordered a 16t 400 out of dlux....

I'm currently building a Pneuma myself with Capra axles. I have a puller 16t or a 500 13t that will go in it. I run puller 400 16t on 4s for my class 2 comp rig and I absolutely love it. Had the 13t in there but on 4s it was overkill. I run the crawlmaster 13t in my class 3 and dont notice any difference in drag brakes. I use a mini br esc for all of them and the drag break is really good, I wouldn't let that deter me from a 5 slot. If you want smooth low speed resolution go 5 slot imo

Out of interest what transmission do you run in your scaler with the 400? And what are you planning for the pneuma?...

I only ask as a friend had a Capra with a 400 puller 16t and br mini and it kept overheating. He thinks it was due to the Capra tranny being geared so high.... I also have a Capra and was considering a br mini for it but not if it won’t work!!..
