Default Tedo's W.E. Rock Capra build

Hello all. I took a few years off because I basically was getting way more into mountain biking. I'm still into to biking, however on a whim, I picked up this 4ws Capra from my LHS.

I am hooked again!!! And am going to do a full W.E. Rock build.

So far everything is stock except I removed the lower spring retainers from the shocks to get the ride height nice and low.

Quick question... Do I stretch the 1.9 BFG Krawlers on the 2.2s (seem like a lot of rock buggies have super tall wheels. Or go full on 2.2 with these shaved, super broken in r35 comp tires?

Lemme know.

I think they look much better with the smaller tires. If it wasn't a portal axle I could see a need for the larger tires but they are already pretty top heavy.

I'm trying to make up my mind on tires myself. Seeing your PB tires on there is swaying my decision. I thought I was going with the rc4wd mt/r's but I do like my pit bull tires...

Also, did you buy a whole axle assembly for the rear or just piece it together?

Don't mind me, I'm a boob. I've been looking at so many FB posts about the 1/18th scale capra I can't get my mind off it ;)

Made some small updates.

- Proline BFG Krawlers

- 100mm ultimate scale shocks w/ internal springs replaced w pen springs and 2 drops of 40wt. Running about 80% droop!

- replaced 2 seater w a more scale single seat interior. Hacked up a yeti interior w a parts bin 1/10 scale head. Looks okay.

- JE Designs 22RE motor. Holy crap it’s a thing of pure beauty.

Fusion SE in route.

Nice job - much prefer the single driver interior mod and yep, stunning is the word on that motor!

Nice rig, how'd you like it with the stock shocks lower spring retainers removed?
I picked one up a while back and just got to run it this past weekend and have been looking into shock mods since.
This seems the simplest and effective "mod", I've read a good bit in this sub and haven't seen this before.
I just removed mine and set rear preload collars down about .5", already digging the new stance.
I'd been looking at doing a droop set up, or Droopra, but was looking for springs on McMaster and got too frazzled trying to figure out spring rates and lengths to use. I've been infatuated with droop setups since first coming across them way back in the day.

Motor is nice. Be sure to plumb the oil line on the turbo before starting, or she’ll grenade. Looking good. I haven’t driven my Capra for at least a year, this is a good motivator for me. Keep the pics coming.

Yes, before i got these ultimates, I had the lower spring retainers removed. Because its a slow speed rock buggy and not a basher, I never noticed a performance loss. Most 1:1 comp buggies I see, are running extreme droop, hence the new set-up.

Single-seat all teh way for a small Unlumited buggy. I feel the new driver's proportions are at a better scale in regards tire and axle sizing.

haha yes, indeed. The Capra brought me back into crawling after 5 years of being gone. A lot has changes. The small vendors are so talented now.

The interior needs a ton of work. I may redo the cutting brakes, and add some "distractions" to hid my horrible glue jobs. Driving it from 10 ft away, it looks "good enough". The Yota engine is second to none!

Made some progress on Capra.

Got a Hobbywing Fusion SE 1800kv, and a new Spectrum RX (it’s so small!). I had to do some slight dremeling on stock skid to fit the Fusion. No big deal.

Also made some custom Krawler cut n shuts. They are now 5.25” tall yes still 1.9 width. They look sick glued up to 1” wide Crawler Innovation 6 Shooters! They are kinda fun to make.

Took her out this morning before work. The extra height of tires help with ground clearance as the shocks are set up 90% droop. The wheels just fall into the holes for traction.

This is by far my most capable buggy to date (Elmo is a close second!)

The Hobbywing Fusion SE is insane. Creeps so smooth, and the drag brake is incredible. I did buy the programming card, so have been playing with that, as it’s super easy to adjust.

The BFG cut n shuts are second to none. Such a perfect size.

This thing is a little spider!

Snub Nose Update.

I chopped off over a half inch of the front end. Much better proportions for a rear engine buggy. I can’t take credit for inventing the mod, as it was already done by rcc member Rock Solid back in 2019. Took about 40 minutes tops.

I love how this cage looks now.

That frame chop is sweet! Any link on how to do it? Another question for the cut n shit tires is there a link for that? Do you use a rubber strip inside to glue them together?

I did exactly this. super easy mod:
Stub nose Capra

The Cut n Shuts are glued together at the seams. I used medium CA glue that cures in 20-30 seconds so you can position the 2 parts. Then when fully cured, I flipped the tire inside out, and run 1 line of CA along the entire seam. This was my very first attempt, so tire 4 was way cleaner then tire 1! They are holding up great and once properly scuffed up on the rocks, the seams will hardly be noticeable. The easy trick is cutting along the tread pattern.
