Hey Bill,

Could I trouble you for an update on those tires? Thanks. Love the build as usual. Im looking to build a bomber for the same purposes as you have. Im probably going to keep the stock axles for now due to cost, but I want to give the dlux truss a shot.

Sorry Motorider, I haven't had these tires out since. Hopefully soon, it pains me that I don't get out crawling as often as I would like.

I know it was mentioned by a few people that when you have a sensored brushless motor the 2 speed kit is useless. I disagree. The higher gear ratio does 3 things-
1. Vastly reduces torque twist. The gear reduction makes it easier for the motor to transmit the power straight to the wheels instead of converting to torque twist
2. Increases drag brake effect- again, the gear reduction allows for a greater drag brake effect
3. Longer crawling running time- due to the higher gear ratio there's less drivetrain stress and therefore longer run times

There's a reason for everything. I myself run the 2 speed with a sensorless motor and it runs great

For front shocks are you using front or rear pro spec shocks?

To get the same width why not just use 1/10th Monster truck tires? Cheaper alternative

Monster truck tires are not made for technical rock crawling.

True but NostopinlucR crawled pretty well with his traxxas summit on 3.8 Mashers

Great run today with the Bomber, it's been a long time since I've run this machine. Performance was outstanding with the 2.2 Goodyear MT/R tires today on both dry and slick rock. My friend's 2.2 Hyrax tires accomplished some pretty awesome lines today and the MT/Rs were able to match the performance easily.

Bent both the driver's side front and rear axle stubs though...had a couple long barrel rolls down some rock faces today which was likely the cause.

Looking awesome as always, Bill!

Speaking of axles, which brand are the ones bending on you?

Still at the build stage of mine...

Thanxs durok. The front axle stub that bent is from Incision and the bent rear axle stub was an Axial part. I have spares and they are good to go now. I cringe when my trucks take some massive tumbles, but that is all part of the hobby!

Hi
I have a question about page 2 on your thread, how did you mount the rc4wd fuel cell?
I really like the look and finish of aluminium and it's smaller size.

I painted my stock fuel cell but i can already see the paint won't last very long on the trail...

I drilled and tapped a hole on each side of the fuel cell and used spacers and longer bolts to screw into the fuel cell. On the front, I used a clamp that is included in the Axial Universal 5 Bucket Light Bar Set.

OK so way out of my league for now

Im saving it for later just in case.

It's a shame nobody makes an aluminium replica of the stock fuel cell.

Bill...I think you've tried more tires on the Bomber than most of us will ever use in a life time If you had to narrow it down to just two (cause I'm guessing one would be Hyrax), what tires are your favorite on the Bomber?

There are no more perfect wheels for the stock Bomber scheme. I just wish they worked with Proline tires without buying an extra inner ring.

You are correct, Hyrax are on the top of the list. I have only used 1.9 KLR tires, but I imagine 2.2 KLR's would #1 or 2 as well, the only thing I wish was that the KLR tires were 5.7ish tall vs. just under 5.5. I really like Axial 2.2 BFG Krawlers R35 too.

I have multiple sets of 2.2 SSD wheels wrapped with P-L tires using the regular black rings without any hassles.

I would agree Hyrax are at the top.

Good to know. SSD recommends not using their wheels with Proline tires unless you buy the inner ring. You might have convinced me to buy a set.

I just checked and it appears SSD offers most, if not all, of their wheels with the Proline inner rings so you no longer have to buy them separately. Oddly, the Rock Racers are not offered in the Proline option so in that case you would have to buy the Proline inner rings separately if you so desire.

For so long I have been using the stock glossy RTR interior which has always been on my to-do list to get it dulled down! I donated the glossy interior to my 10.2 SR5 Truggy and bought a new interior for the Bomber. I also picked up a sheet of Freqeskinz Bomber interior skinz from AMain. I painted the backside PS-5 black and dullcoated the topside with PS-55 flat clear. I'm very happy with how it turned out although it took close to two hours to apply the decals. You definitely need a heat gun to get them to contour to the fairly complex interior convex and concave surfaces.

Came out fantastic, man!

Every time I looked a their site I've wondered at how tricky application might be...

The MT/Rs are lookin' sweet on those silver SSD wheels... a prime example of a hot-rodded Bomber, for sure!
