You will gain little or no speed with the 2 speed, what you are adding is a low gear giving slow speed control to faster brushless system. That shouldn't be needed at all on 30T brushed on 2S.

Or you can gear low gear to where you are now and high will go considerably faster. I believe the gears are 1.08:1 and 2:1.

Not going to be very nice for a slowish brushed motor though. Another option is to split down the middle, low gear will be lower than you are now, high gear will be higher.

how would you control a 2 speed setup and an optional drag break switch for lo/hi? Guess one would need a a 4 channel radio and receiver for this and a ESC like the MMX that would allow this?

I bought my bomber 2nd hand and installed the 2speed but now am dealing with mounting the servo to the stock skid/ intergy metal cage with no mount left on the skid.

Check out RC Recycler or a local shop, they might have the kit 2-speed components?

The shift servo and the Aux wire for the Mamba X can connect to the same channel, but you typically need a servo reverser.

Dito with binding issues.

I got mine installed. Assembly was a breeze. I set my end points on my servo but even still it is just binding up.

I really wish the shift fork rod didn't roll

I did t not have a good servo horn or linkage to use. I'm using what I could find locally. Some smaller rod ends and a traxxas servo saver. Horizontally the throw is straight but my linkage goes up from the trans to the horn a little and I think it's causing bind.

First I tried this, the traxxas servo saver, terrible angle, super bindy.

Then I tried this, a regular servo arm. Close but still binds without assistance.

I'm using a MMP pro4hd combo on 3S with stock gearing and its fast and can still creep very well. Id imagine if throttle control is a problem, then maybe a 2 speed would be worth it. Or if you are trying to get yeti track speeds. 20mph is fast enough for me....that's a guesstimate.
I have an Axial 2-speed in my Yeti and paired with a Mamba X, it is a great thing. I run a Tekin Pro 4HD, so it's all sensored. With the 2-speed coupled with the aux output on the ESC (as David H mentioned above) I have it setup so that when I engage 1st gear I have 100% drag brake and instant reverse, while in 2nd gear I have 30% drag brake and break - reverse on the tx. Full drag brake and instant reverse aids a lot in crawling situations, but when going fast I certainly don't want it - it would make the car roll over whenever I let go of the throttle.

So, with a good brushless system and a Mamba X, you get kind of a 2-in-1 driving experience. When I build a bomber within a couple of months, this will definitively go into it from the start.

One more thing on my list of things I want to do to my bomber.

So you could have high speed w/o drag brake and low w/ dragbrake? What about endpoints on servo? Really like this idea!

It is a very cool feature, and really makes for a dual-purpose vehicle.

1 - You need to set the endpoints so that the esc engages the rr/crawler mode and the drag brake to your linking. The diagrams linked off of this page can help.

X-series Rock Race/Crawler Auxiliary Wire Mode

2 - connect the servo and adjust the servo horn, servo horn hole, and linkage length so that the transmission shifts properly. You may need a servo saver horn with additional holes closer to the axis, and a reverser module if your servo rotates opposite to what you need. There are reverser modules with integral y-harness for as little as US$10.

Can you put the 2-speed + AUX wire on a 2-position switch or clicky button?

Or does it have to be a dial type channel?

I can't see how this can shift the transmission and change mode at the same time...

You will want 2 postitons for buttons/switch and set up servo to shift between high and low and y harness the signal to esc that you set up that tells it what mode to be in

Someone needs to write a step by step guide for this...
I feel like a moron everytime someone tries to explain.

I totally agree with the step by step.
I also need to find the part number for the 2 speed servo mount if anyone can help out!

My solution so far is to avoid the damn 2-speed....

Why avoid the 2 speed? It works great for me and allows a good range for crawling and top speed without spending money on a sensored brushless setup.
