Bomber. Much thanks to Axial for hooking me up with the RR10. Cute truck in stock form, however I'm already starting to strip it down after taking it out for a test drive. Definitely the base for Class 3 this year. Axial/Brandon really did their homework on this one. Perfect scale to wheel size to make it "feel" like it's full size inspiration. Solid axles for predictable handling, medium-long wheelbase with trailing arms, well balanced front to rear. I really liked what I saw in my first run today. Last year, for kicks, I thought I'd try running a Yeti in Class 3. We can all imagine how that turned out. I doubt that this rig will high-center with the shorter skid. Two speed really isn't my thing, so I don't think I'll go that direction, so perhaps I'll go back to a Wraith trans. List of junk to do: EVERYTHING. But seriously, BGR is building a new cage from depleted uranium and everything is going to get a serious upgrade. Curries, Axial heavy metal bits, Holmes electrical wizardry, etc. And of course, my own accurate spin on things to make it my own special butterfly. I'm hoping to do a bit of testing and experimenting to get it just right. Excited to have a new platform to play with. Stay tuned. Last edited by imthatguy; 01-16-2016 at 09:01 PM. |

Nice list so far, but I have to ask. Keeping the Axial shocks?

| Re: Imthatguy's Bomber Thanks for the kind truck. You knocked this one out of the park sir. With a bit of an upgrade here and there, this is definitely a contender. I'm curious to see how you'd set yours up actually. Quote:
The trailing arms at the very least. Axial sent me all the metal upgrades and upper aluminum links, and I like how the metal plates work. Firm, but still slippery where it counts. Quote:
And to keep things legit, here's a picture of it IN my washing machine. Meta. Last edited by imthatguy; 01-18-2016 at 08:32 PM.

Well, I had to start by tearing down and taking inventory of the parts Axial's sent my way. I honestly think that by the end of it, I'll have nearly enough parts to have two Bombers. Much thanks to Axial for providing me with all the nice bronze and grey hop-ups. XR10 aluminum steering bits, Wraith aluminum upper and lowers, Yeti rear upper and lower aluminum braces, 38T Bevel gears, RR10 Transmission Motor plate, and CVD's. Pretty much all the important stuff. Once all the bits were installed, I marvelled that I didn't break anything. I set about making my own steering link for these axles, as the plastic one just wouldn't do. That servo will be replaced, but not until it gives up the ghost. It's a perfectly fine servo for bashing about, and waiting for aluminum cages to be constructed and shipped. You'll notice from my RPP & Vanquish screenshots, that there's a couple of Wraith-width Currie tubes on the way. I've got a set of XR10 width versions here and figured I should go big and not go home.

It's very refreshing to do away with the Yeti trans and transfer case setup and go with something compact, and proven to be a winner. Not that I've had any bad luck with the Yeti setup, it's just a lot of extra moving parts. Simplify man! Before: After: Much kudos to DMG for creating this extremely simple Wraith to Bomber skid plate. Sure, with some drilling and sanding, I could have easily gotten the Bomber skid to work with the Wraith trans, but I wanted to raise the Wraith trans slightly to allow for more driveshaft clearance and am anticipating going to a DIG setup, and will probably need the room. Power has arrived. POWERRRRRRR. |

| Re: Imthatguy's Bomber Thanks! Upgrading to Curries front and rear, and I've come across a question regarding the sway bar. How have you folks worked around the Currie mounts and the shorter sway bar posts? If I mount it to the existing Currie mounts, I'll bind and there will be no articulation. Do I have to go to the Vanquish sway bar? |
