Putting in a new ESC in my son's Bomber. I kinda screwed up the old one waterproofing it...

And converting this used but new to me Bomber into a venerable B1B!!!

I cut up a wraith wagon and went crawling

I don't think it'll last long, might end up cutting the roof to the bomber size cause it'll break. But it was free so who cares?!

I replaced the stock esc with hobbywing 1080, replaced the plastic steering links with SSD links and went ahead and moved my savox servo over to the bomber. Really starting to dig this rig, looking forward to running it when I get the new batteries and wheels

A while back I made a few changes to the Bomber (stock motor and gearing, 2S battery pack) to make it a bit quicker.

First off 64 tooth spur gear with a 14 tooth pinion - marginal change if any.

The 14 tooth pinion arrived with a 13 tooth and a 56 tooth spur gear. The 56 tooth spur gear needed slipper pads but these weren't available so I had to order from the USA.

I finally got the 56 tooth spur and 14 tooth pinion (I'd decided this was the highest I'd risk trying with stock ESC and motor). The spur gear needed some fettling with a needle file because it wasn't 100% concentric on the shaft despite using the roller bearing race). I found this by adjusting the throttle deadband with the Bomber's wheels off the bench top - the wheels would revolve then the high spot cause the motor to stop.

I marked up the high spot and gradually removed the material until the wheels revolved smoothly.

Result was that the buggy accelerated a bit more slowly (as expected) but the top speed wasn't that much greater (not yet measured).

The biggest downside is the noise, metal spur gears are nearly as noisy as my 1957 Land Rover in first gear!

I tried fitting automotive sound proofing pads to the transfer box and spur gear case but the 56t metal gear was more than a match.

Back to 64 tooth plastic spur and a 14 tooth pinion I think.

To very affordably make your Bomber faster, install a $20 Titan 21T 550, HW 1080 $41 and a 30C 2200 Turnigy Blue for about $12 and you'll have a ripping Bomber for well under $100. It's no brushless fireball but this affordable mod totally transforms a stock Bomber. Totally reliable as well; you don't need to change a thing. It's 'nearly' as quick as a 2S 3150kv Yeti.

Re powered her with a MMX and Brood Vigor 3600kv. Also broke a center pin on my HV500 so swapped in the Protek 370TBL. Swapped out the front steering linkage for Incision stainless links and cleaned/topped off the shocks. Lastly I installed the spectrum receiver so I can access the AUX wire of the MMX thru my new to me DX4R Pro.

Thanks for the suggestion!
I want to stick with NiMh batteries.
Going to try a plastic 56T spur gear when they are back in stock...
meanwhile it is back to the 64T plastic spur.

Replaced (what was left of) the rear outer pinion shaft bearing. Only the races and maybe 5 or 6 balls was left, not sure where everything else went. Lol and added new wheels as stock ones stripped the hexs

Made some aluminum sides and painted the fuel cell. Removed the spare tire for now but will likely leave it off.

Wifey got a vinyl cutter to do the 'back to school' label making for the kids. I was tasked with figuring it out.

1st attempt and they came out OK. Too small and ill proportioned, but the idea is there. I'll need a few more cracks at it and a tape measure wouldn't hurt beforehand either.
