Got hold of some Wraith ripsaws with wheels, brand new...£30 delivered. So they now grace the bomber and I may put the bomber wheels on my SCX10.2...hopefully the ripsaws will be better for my climbs at the local park, its a sandy mud type and the standard tyres get a bit clogged

Changed all the rod ends to boom racing/traxxas jobbies...well all except the one on the servo...well that stretched and snapped...so thats now changed as well.

How you liking those Boom Raving rod ends? I’ve got some in my fleaBay cart but am waiting on any feedback/reviews.

Ripsaws on a Bomber. They’re aight. Excellent for the used prices.

The rod ends seem to be pretty good so far, the whole thing feels more solid than with the axial bits.

The bomber wheels and tyres have gone onto the SCX 10.2 and Ive uprated the shocks with some bits from my yeti to give it a bit of lift.... :-)

Tried out the Ripsaws today, loads better than the standard kit tyres on the terrain I was attacking. Up some of the sandy climbs I was able to get quite a bit higher than before and I even completed some other climbs that werent possible before. Very pleased.

Default What did you do to your Bomber today?

Finished installing a servo winch; more involved than I expected, so I thought I’d share, lol! I’ll try to keep the text short.

I used the Wertymade RR10 winch plate and a HeyOk wireless servo winch kit:
http://www.rpphobby.com/product_p/wm-bsp.htm
https://www.amainhobbies.com/heyok-p...heyrw1/p521838

Both are great and I’d recommend them to anyone.

The winch plate was easy to install, but closer than I wanted to the steering servo, so I raised it up with 9 mm spacers - as suggested elsewhere on RCCrawler. This gave me full suspension travel, but the winch line was too high to exit the chassis without rubbing (or sawing through) the hood tip. I could have trimmed the hood, but didn’t want to do this. So I needed a way to thread the line under the hood while keeping it tall enough at the servo for correct spooling on the bobbin.

After messing around for a while I came up with: rod end + riser in one of the plate holes next to the servo and a scrap piece of Lexan bolted under the plate fasteners in the front. I wrapped the Lexan in electrical tape so it wouldn’t fray the winch line; removed the hollow ball from the rod end for the same reason. The line goes from the bobbin, through the rod end, under the Lexan, and out through the fairlead. Gives me full suspension travel, no rubbing on the hood, and the line spools as it should.

Here’s a view from the top, hood removed. The winch is on the left, rod end is near the middle.

Here’s the Lexan piece in the front. It has a “L” shape to avoid rubbing the line on the fairlead side

Side view of the winch / rod end

Same of the line passing under the hood

I scrapped it. Does that count as doing something?
Well, sort of. As to not be a downer at the new year, here is clarification to my frustration. To mount/run Summit locking diffs and not grenade the cases, the rig would need to turn into a Bomber XL or Jumbo Bomber. So for now it makes an awesome push toy. I'll try again. Take 2, the wheel, re-re-re-invented.

I think he is starting with a skid... Hey, DavidH! I got extras of basically everything else except the cage - and it's the kit version, not RTR, wanna make a deal?

You're right, I am starting from just the skid.

But I recently kitbashed my RTR yeti (with 4WS) and a kit yeti and I have almost all the parts I need to put a bomber together. Thanks for the offer.

I am fabricating my own front links, and will use the yeti rear links. I had considered making a 6x6 but I think I just want to run a bomber for what it is first, and consider converting it later.

I don't have the cage, so I will go with some sort of truck body.

Changed the pinion from 19T to 12T.

New to the hobby, Bought it used. The kid was driving and blew a cap on the ESC. Replaced the ESC and installed 2 speed tranny. The car was still to fast.

Finally decided to replace the pinion and this thing climbs better than a goat now

Fitted Crawler Innovations CI-1045 foams in the Krawler tyres - looks like they are inflated properly now!

Also made a set of aluminium panels and painted them in a custom livery based on the Catalan flag. I'd bought signal red, canary yellow aerosols and french blue with the plan being to paint it red with yellow spots and a blue nose (girlfriend has socks like this and I thought the pattern was different).

Anyway I'd seen on a Hot Rod TV show (I think Boyd Coddington) where they painted the car yellow over primer before the red top coats to make the red "pop". I primered the panels and gave it a coat of yellow - it looked fab, really bright and thought it a shame to cover it up. I'd seen a red/yellow/blue colour combination somewhere before then the Catalan breakaway vote occurred and their flag was the inspiration.

I'll post photos when I get them uploaded.
